Mongoose are good exhausts, should make the wee beastie go a bit better! Good call on the Helicoil too!

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
I have a Mongoose on mine. Had it for 7-8 years and still spotless. A very nice deep note comes out of it aswell, as a bonus.

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
I had a lot of 'fun' with my exhaust. The previous owner had fitted the down pipe from a '95 Vitesse Sport (200bhp) which is a 3" diameter (the later Vitesses, which are also 200bhp have 2.5" downpipes), so when I came to fit my stainless 2.5" (from the Sterling, too noisy), problems. I was completely unaware of the difference in size and further exacerbated by the different length of the cat of the two models. Had a local exhaust place make me an adaptor, which was difficult as the car was 20 miles away, always better to work with the car present!
I've slipped in a couple of mufflers inside the 3" tail pipes as it was still a bit noisy, however I have cut off the end blanking plate from one as I felt there was too much back pressure. Seems to be a nice balance now with quite a nice exhaust note and noise.

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
Exhaust is on. Haven't got all the rubber mounts on yet as getting access the rear is difficult at the moment. The downpipe went onto the turbo and the new studs nicely and done up with the copper nuts, on a new steel gasket. Refitted the turbo oil drain with a new gasket and a tiny bit of sealer.
Kind of crappy shot of tailpipes. Not polished up yet.
I had some help from colleagues braking up the old system so it will go in my car and be transported home. Handy working with engineers who are also into their cars.
Fitted alternator, aux belt tensioner and new aux belt. Then fitted a new aircon dryer into the freshly repainted bracket and placed the new condenser into position at the front of the car.
Getting there!

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying this thread. I sold my Vitesse a year ago and whilst I do genuinely love my ZT, I don't think I've ever really got over the Vitesse (probaby explains why I'm still hanging around on an 800 forum!).
If you do decide to sell, please consider me seriously interested.

Also, I've never owned an 800 in any colour other than green. Maybe it would be time to branch out...

Nice to see you're still around Adrian. And thanks for still making the fuel fillers and bumper brackets, I'll be needing some soon. Discount for forum members?

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
I did the selection on mine, it previously had all the accuracy of a spoon in soup. Replaced the bushes with nylon ones (did the front suspension at the same time) but didn't replace the knuckle joint. The selector is much better but still not perfect. There is an uprated Freelander kit that I fancy as it is a swap out job rather than cut off and weld, which I believe is an option.

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
Rumour has it that if you get the universal joint from the steering column, cut the ends of the selector rods where they go onto the spider bit and replace the spider bit with the U/J it works very well. The U/J having bolts in it to clamp onto the steering column can clamp onto the selector rods.
Alternatively, universal U/Js can be bought on ebay with clamp fittings, i believe 20mm is the size to go for but don't quote me on that as it's 20+ years since i owned and drove a manual 800!

That's the sort of thing i mean - might be helpful, you'll have to do a bit of research as i don't have a manual to check size of the rods.
