We'll get to the bottom of it all Henrik!

Once the alternator is sorted there's a very high chance your hunting idle problem will disappear and also, if you reconnect the ABS light as it should be that will work as it should too, or at least you'll be able to find the fault.
As you've proved your errrrr............. "modification" on the ABS light it should be fairly easy to swap between the two systems. :D
Cheers,
Dave

I'd also be doing basic checks of the quality of your earth/ground connections (not sure if 'earth' or 'ground' gives you the best translation Henrik). Apologies if already suggested previously.

Clean them, brighten them up with some abrasive paper and remake them - that'll also go a long way towards resolving odd behaviour.

Thanks Adrian. I have been around the whole car with the contact cleaner spray and emery paper and most of the normally non working stuff really is working. :D

Also there has been some apparent changes in the electric system over the years, like hands free mobile phone, extra alarm system etc. But none of that works so it’s just in the way really.

My goal is to get all the basics up and running and it’s getting there.

My biggest fear is if the fuel line and brake lines are badly corroded as I dont want to bury too much money into it.

As promised. The interior is in pretty good shape. Original carpets add to the bonus.
As spotted in the pics there are two major issues even though not critical. Where the phone were screwed the panel is split and has two holes. They will be somewhat rectified later.
Second is that the LCD panel is in bad shape with a ”bloom” from the bottom.
Note the sliders for the heat and fan, plus button for AC.
Boot is ok. I have a spare carpet too.

Looking good Henrik! Will yours and Gunnars spares car yield an instrument cluster trim to get rid of the holes round the vent?

As for the bloom in the clock display they do come up occasionally. Have a look on ebay.com (the USA ebay) and search for "Sterling 827" :

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... ondition=4

There's a few alternators on there too! :P

It's set to "used" bits at the moment but no other filters so you might find some Sterling silver jewellery thrown in as well! :D
Cheers,
Dave

No, I’m not going to bother swapping parts as it comes with some downsides. Plus, the cracked part isnt the same anyway. I think some gentle filler and paint will be fine enough.

The alternator is being restored as we speak. It needed full resto as the lining was burnt too. Not cheap but at least I know what I have after that.

Fair comment on the bits for swapping, good news the alternator is fixable too!

Just a suggestion, refit the ABS light as it should be then see what it does with the fixed alternator. :D

It would be easier to hit full brakes Dave. ;)

But on the swapping panel bit, when I think about it, they are not the same. The ones I have as spares are prepared for wood, this one is moulded as it is, plus I believe the piece over the ”Tea Cup Tray” is different too.

I never bothered to get into the fan and heater today. To much crawling on the back can’t be good for you! So I attacked the exterior instead.

Removing rear plinth to see if that can be buffed up some, in the process cleaning up and getting som thin Tectyl rust protection on the bad spots.

It looks kind of cool all black. :D

You could wrap the plinth in black vinyl Henrik to match the car.

Something i've tried myself to help revive the look of plastics is WD40 and separately, ATF. The ATF seemed to give a deeper sheen and last longer, neither lasted a terrific amount of time but i don't know how long the ATF will last, it's faded a little but not much, perhaps just the "wet look" has gone so maybe it will last a lot longer.

Might be worth a try seeing as they're both petrolchemical products andthe plastic fades because it loses the naturally occurring oils in it.
Cheers,
Dave

Some more fiddling!
Alternator fixed.
Thermostat removed.

I must say this is a really hot looking car. I love it! Gunnar called it ”The Black Beast” and that name really suits this car! :D

Being bored as I cant get the thermostat in I did something else.
I had some etch primer left from when I built my Austin Special in aluminium so ripped the cover out, gave it a clean and a cote of etch primer. Not sure the can of gold paint I have will look ok but I hope so!
