Intermotor 52470 is the part number Henrik :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw ... r&_sacat=0

Also Ford E92Z-10884-C and a few Kia and a Mazda part number come up.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw ... r&_sacat=0

Strangely enough - those are all cheaper but are the same sensors!

Dave

It happens Henrik! I miss loads of stuff on ebay, simply because of how it's listed! Often people don't know what they're listing and would list it as say an "Engine manangement sensor". On some cars that may be right and there is another on the 2.7 for this purpose. However the temperature gauge uses the single wire sensor alone.

You could try cleaning the terminal on it and inside the terminal on the end of the wire and gently squeezing the connector on the car to tighten the terminal. Might work, might not but a quick test of the gauge would be to remove the wire from the sensor and using a pice of wire, earth it out. Switch the ignition on and the gauge should start moving rapidly upwards - if so, switch off quick! Ideally you should use at least a 10 ohm resistor for this test but a quick test is ok with wire - but it must a QUICK test! :D
Cheers,
Dave

That reminds me of when I bought a mappable ECU for my old twincam 216 coupe. The guy selling it in Austria misspelled the german Word for ECU and I found it by a happy chance and paid €0.99 for it, they used to go for €60-100. :D

Thanks for the tip on checking the gauge, I’ll give it a go!

I've had a few items like that, spelled wrongly, listed in the wrong section and so on. I used to use this site quite a lot :

http://fatfingers.com/

Nothing to do with abnormally large digits, more spelling mistakes, typos and so on that put an item into the wrong category or just changed its name on ebay, resulting in few, if any views and even fewer bids.

No problem on the tip for testing the gauge, hopefully it's either just a bad connection or the sensor. :D
Cheers,
Dave

So, tried the trick of earthing the wire from the sensor. It did move but only maybe a mm or two during 10 seconds. Sounds strange? I did it by putting a wire from the spade terminal of the "sensor-wire" to earth, then turned ignition on. After a few seconds I noticed it hade moved, but only so very little. Battery not properly charged though and quite a long wire. Oh the thrills with old cars. :D

It should have shot up quicker and further than that Henrik. Does the fuel gauge work? Also do you know how flat the battery is/was? It will only effect it under 10v but it could be the voltage regulator or just dirty connections on the back of the instrument cluster.

If the fuel gauge is working then unless you can find and clean a dirty connection on the back of the cluster to fix it, then the chances are it's the temperature gauge.

Which instruments have you got in there? I think the very early ones were VDO and not sure about the later ones or it might have been the other way round, i'd have to check. If it's the later sort (same as your Coupé) i have a spare instrument cluster that was working when removed - you'd need to swap the speedo over though as it's in mph but that's a fairly easy thing to do. It's also out of a V6 so should be right for the engine. :D
Cheers,
Dave

I think it might be as simple as a flat battery Dave. I need to charge it and try again.

Actually the cluster is the older one, with loads of gauges :D but I have a spare here too, in km/h and everything!

Just an idea Henrik, seeing as you have a spare cluster - charge the battery, give the existing one a quick check (maybe with the wire again to prove it moves) and if it still doesn't move, plug the spare cluster in.
Cheers,
Dave

It's a stomach pump! (When i was a toddler, i recieved a long, flexible hose fot xmas, the idea was to whirl it round above the head and it made strange howling noises - not knowing the proper name of it i called it a stomach pump and for a long time, anything odd-looking with a pipe on the end was a stomach pump! )

After my near-half century trip down memory lane, i can make a sensible guess at a replacement back box! :D

Dave

Tada! First price goes to Dave.

I even had a can of zinc primer so managed to scoop it in place. Only Held by the middle rubber thingy but this makes it possible to look for the middle box/section as I now can measure from end to end.

In place:

That old box looks like it was held together by rust!

What's the part number on the new back box Henrik? Most middle scetions should fit and work with it but having a part number means i can check to see which middle is most likely to be the right one for you.

As for the rubber thingy, i've just had to replace 2 of those on my Volvo. Turns out the (slightly) later version of mine or those with the optional cat had different exhaust middle rubbers. The ones i fitted were very tight when i fitted them 2 years back, however because they were tight, any movement and they slid off the hooks!

Got the right two now, the distance between the holes for silencer hook and bodyhook is only about 3-5mm more but bear in mind the old ones have stretched a little and the new ones are, well, new so are very tight but it sits better now.

Thankfully Rover used the same rubbers throughout as far as i'm aware so you won't have that problem! :D

Dave

Not sure about the part number right now but atleast I’ve got the dimensions to work from and I have a few threads out to find something. Let me get back on that!

Oh Rover rubbers. They are so high quality that no more little Rovers will ever be born.
