Re: Manalishis Mk 1 827 Vitesse (manual)
What's the diameter of the discs?
I just took off the front discs from the blue 820, 21 mm thick and 261 mm dia.
Anything for you?
Gunnar

These are probably larger at 285mm.

Are you going to do the sills before the MoT or when you have the failure sheet Henrik?

I’ll probably wait Dave. Depends a bit if winter sets in or not. At the moment Im working outdoors and so far it’s ok. I hope to get the rear brakes sorted and the exhaust patched up first.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 8:35 pmAre you going to do the sills before the MoT or when you have the failure sheet Henrik?
The sills aren’t totally rotten and actually they tend to leave them alone unless they have holes, which these don’t.
Largest problem now is really the headlights. I hope to get to that hidden relay under the dash but if that fails I need to reroute the wiring. Im not happy about it.

The Relay Tower, as it's known is a little awkward to get at, it's on the other side of the central locking ecu just above the brake/accel pedal, once its off you'll see why its called the relay tower, a dozen relays in two rows of various sizes, most are labelled with what function they perform. I'd still be looking behind the front bumper at the dim/dip relay, it's a bumper off job.

Thanks Dave! I’ll start there. Most of the front is already dismantled so the bumper is easy.dollysprint wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 12:09 amThe Relay Tower, as it's known is a little awkward to get at, it's on the other side of the central locking ecu just above the brake/accel pedal, once its off you'll see why its called the relay tower, a dozen relays in two rows of various sizes, most are labelled with what function they perform. Re: Manalishis Mk 1 827 Vitesse (manual)
All brakes dismantled and put together again. Brake pedal is really spongy compared to the coupe. Handbrake is useless so something needs to be Done there aswell.
Exhaust is rotten. I did find a new original non-cat system on eBay but unfortunately there was an error. It was out of stock. Too bad.
Next thing is something different. The burr walnut square piece under the handbrake was totally knackered so I removed the traces of veneer and am about to fix a new piece from some walnut veneer I had. First step was to wet it up as it was very ”bumpy”. Next was to cut it to shape and lastly to glue it to the metal plate.
Pics are a bit random, strange!

Re: Manalishis Mk 1 827 Vitesse (manual)
Have the rear calipers seized Henrik? That would explain the handbrake. Are the rubber brake hoses swelling when the brakes are pushed? If so, that would explain the spongy feeling.
Alternatively they need bleeding. Chances are that's the main cause as the fluid is almost certainly way past its sell-by date!
When you come to bleed it, try to use a pressure bleeder so you don't compromise the master cylinder seals by pushing the pedal further than it would normally go into unworn areas of the master cylinder bore. This can cause failure of the master cylinder seals.
Also, remove the bottom bolt from each front caliper and lift the bottom of each so the bleed nipple is uppermost. There is a void in the caliper where air can stay, even when bled which can cause a spongy feeling.
As for the exhaust - probably a blessing in disguise! If you currently have a cat on there, a non-cat system won't fit without the correct, non-cat front pipes.
Lovely job on the veneer! Are you going to lacquer it so it's the same as the original stuff?

Re: Manalishis Mk 1 827 Vitesse (manual)
I need to examine the rear calipers again but theyre not seized. The handbrake pivot turns and so did the cylinder. I really dont like to mess around with bleeding so might even give that one away, including changeing fluid.
Yes, the veneer will get some clear cotes. This veneer is a bit darker than the original but its free of charge.
Actually I dont have a cat. I think I might have said I did but thats wrong. The nice thing with the system I thought I bought was that it was a full system including the front part/downpipe. The system I have on isnt actually too bad except for the last part, but the middle section seems to have been cut. The middle section is less than 2” and the last part is 2.5” so the step is enormous. Looks quite silly. But saying that, I might get away by fitting only a new backbox piece.

Re: Manalishis Mk 1 827 Vitesse (manual)
Handbrake problems can often be caused by people adjusting the cable when in fact the automatic adjusters in the caliper need adjusting. The correct procedure is:
Loosen cable
Wind pistons back into calipers
Refit calipers and pads
Pump the brake pedal until the adjusters take up the slack
Adjust cable

Re: Manalishis Mk 1 827 Vitesse (manual)
Thanks Richard. I will do the rears again. I think the problem occured when I tried to work the cables some as the calipers were unhooked. I know these types can be a bit tricky!
Good thing the forecast says warm nice weather for the following week. Winter is closing in so not that pleasant to be outdoors any longer.
