Cant seem to find any relay behind the bumper. Im not even sure what Im looking for?
Go on Rimmers web site, tap in Rover 800 early relays, item 24 is the dim dip resistor, item 3 is the dim dip relay, should be mounted below left hand headlight near where the bumper bar bolts to the chassis.

Nothing behind the bumper. :(

It was a genuine bi**** to remove though but once off its atleast easy to access for cleaning and fixing the horns and washer pump.

I think it might be that "rogue" relay near the battery Henrik. Maybe someone had problems before with it and had it moved there to prevent road dirt and moisture killing it.

Meanwhile you now have a nice big Meccano set/jigsaw puzzle! :D

Yes Dave that was the page, thanks.
Henrik does it look like something has been removed/wiring loom altered? Or was dim-dip not a legal requirement for Europe in 1988 and so it wasn't fitted?

Im not really sure what ”dim dip” is, but if I understand it correctly its the H4 lamp going down in intensity to about 5-10w instead of the full 55w. Im pretty sure this is only for GB-driving? In Spain (where this car was sold) there was no law saying you had to have any lights on in 1989. Here in Sweden we have a law since 1977 saying headlights (H4) have to be on 24/7. The closest to dim dip 30-40 years ago would be our ”varselljus” where the sidelights had a double filament bulb giving 21w when headlights were switched off - which was legal but not fitted to any cars except Volvo in the 70s/80s and some Saabs. It was however possible to fit extra lights often attached to the bumpers - varselljus. This was to overcome the problem of needing to turn on the headlights which could result in: 1 forgetting to switch on - fined by the police, or 2: forgetting to switch off - drained battery.

I presume my car isnt fitted with this relay, but maybe someone fitted ”automatic headlights on” by an extra relay, the green next to the fuse box.

Well anyway, back to the drawing board. Next in line is to try to find the tall relay behind the inner fusebox. If that fails I will need to rewire from a new switch in the dashboard...

Happy days! :D

"Dim-dip" makes it impossible to drive on sidelights alone Henrik, with the sidelights on and engine running, the dipped beam filaments of the H4 bulbs run at 20-50% intensity so a little more than you suggested but the idea is the same. Switching to headlights (second position of the headlight switch) brings the dipped beams up to normal power and the option to switch to full beam.

I'm fairly sure that even export cars would have had dim-dip but it looks like you don't have the resistors, maybe yours didn't or it was removed.

There was a Rover kit available for DRLs from Rover (Google translate reports "DRL" is the translation for "varselljus") so maybe this relay next to the fusebox/battery is what it was for.
Cheers,
Dave

I guess this is the temp sensor for the thermometer in the display? (Behind the bumper near the horns.)

I'd make a guess you're right Henrik, they usually look a bit different to that and sit behind the lower grille in the bumper on the right. Also the wiring is usually black, not white.

That said, the "sensitive" end looks the same! :D

On the Mk2 827, the sensor is attached to the inside of the lower grill and is marked Denso.

So, not much have been done over the last few days/week but I’ve received the new horn and it works. Both washer motors were shot so ordered two universal ones as Im on a tight budget. They will do the work.

But here is a question for the technical guys on the forum: my temp gauge is not moving and I think it could be a bad connection of the temp gauge sender, but where is it? I see a small sender next to the coolant bleed valve next to/under the throttle body, could it be that one?

If it's the single terminal one Henril then almost certainly. Next to the 'stat housing? The good news is new ones are pennies, the same sender is used by a lot of Fords and others.

Here's one Henrik :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-800-82 ... 1987426912

Should look pretty similar to what you've got there. ;) :D

I'll look up the Intermotor part number shortly and see if i can find it cheaper as an alternative brand part.
