That's a great improvement Henrik!

Isn't it great when a simple little job like that improves matters greatly - more improvement than the effort to do it would suggest, gives you more hope and enthusiasm! :D
Absolutely true. It was quite a moral boost when the headlamps suddenly started working. The other stuff is straight forward mechanically, but electrics can be tricky especially for someone like me who doesn't understand electrics.

It's not too bad at all really, pop the old one out and the new one in. This is the one i used :

https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/produc ... 981d&_ss=r

Straight swap for the Rover original and prevents hyperflash when using LED indicator bulbs.

https://youtu.be/_k_NqJwm9sw

That's the back end, got similar at the front but have updated the bulbs to the "switchback" type so the DRL function blanks while the indicators are on and stays off for a few seconds after the indicators stop.

Dave

One more day of fiddling.
The windshield washer didnt work so I got an aftermarket pump that I eventually got working. Check!

The rear window needs a second pump so that must wait.

Interior fan was dead earlier but it has come to live after loads of spray and pushing the slider a million times. But, its only working in one speed. Pretty High speed. Any ideas? Cars with 1-2-3-4 knob usually breaks down only two speeds working, like 3-4 and that is usually a resistor. Could this be the same? Where is it?

Ac is not working obviously. The button lights up but the system is silent. I tried removing the relay/ECU by the front right headlamp and gave it a spray in the socket and even opened it up to see. I also removed the multiplug by the CAM cover (I think its the right to start the AC and sprayed there aswell, but nothing. Next step is to try what Gunnar did, jump starting it by connecting a live wire directly from the battery to the socket/multiplug.

Tomorrow I’ll try to rip the rear brakes apart to adjust the handbrake in the correct way.

On the right hand drive cars with a switched fan, the resistor is underneath the fan/heater housing if memory serves. I'm guessing they simply did a mirror image for the LHD cars so if you remove the trim under the glovebox and look up, you'll probably see the resistor pack or at least the piece of plastic it's mounted on.Usually held in by 2 or 3 screws, a centrally (ish) mounted plug to disconnect and the screws to remove and it's out. YOu'll probably find a common connection has broken. Should be able to either re-crimp or solder it. :D

Dave

Good luck with it, it's about 20 years since my last Mk1 and about 25 since the one i had to do that on. As such the memory might be a bit skew-whiff but i'm sure the basics are pretty much there.

Today I did some painting. The front bumper top piece needed some care as it was a bit split and dented. Almost impossible to make it last but its fairly ok.
The satin black pieces at the window frames got a Fresh layer of paint too. In the pics there are those not painted yet and the ones painted. The difference is striking. Not really important stuff but it lifts the overall impression. The car isnt pretty but everything has its time...

Very nice Henrik! Need to do mine too, did the worst bits a few years back but not all of them, the "better" ones then now look worse than the worst ones did a few years back!

Consider me inspired to get myself in gear and do mine soon! :D

Do it Dave! Its such a simple and Quick fix that really adds detail. I just did the rear spoiler aswell. It had a couple of bad chips in the surface so some sanding and filler was needed.

I remember the rear spoiler of the small coupe had a problem with the PU letting out gasses making the paint bubble and chip. I hope this hasnt got the same fault. Time will tell and to be honest its not much work to do it every other year. The main difference is that the spoiler on the small coupe was painted in regular car paint. This is a thicker more plastic like satin black almost rubber looking paint. Anyway, I used the same as with the door pillars. Looks ok.

I need to find my Satin Black paint first Henrik! :P

Then hope for a wind-free day!

Talking about your spoiler letting out gasses from the PU, you didn't by any chance cover it with anything in the first few months after painting it did you? That can cause similar problems.

Dave

If you mean the small coupe no, they all do/did that. Some error in the production. Common knowledge in the 200 coupe community. I resprayed mine very thoroughly with very special primer to do the job properly, but it returned in only a short while. Its appearing in the bend at the outer part.

This one on the 800 was flaking and chipped when I got it, painted it today. But its not looking the same way. The 200 had blisters, this is more flakes and chips. Like the paint is brittle.

Get out in that garage and find your rattle can, Dave! :D

No longer got my garage Henrik, hence having trouble finding stuff! Might just have to buy some Satin Black instead.

As for the paint, i've heard some paints if they're covered while curing, the gases from the paint can't escape so build up and cause micro-blisters which sounds similar.

Dave

True. The bubbling of the small coupe spoiler was down to something similar. In the process of making the PU spoiler, there was some error so they werent ”baked” properly and many, many small coupes had that problem.

Enough rant of that. Today its kitchen service. The wife turns 50 so we’re having a party tomorrow which needs prep. Id prefer to fit the front bumper though!
