Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
So. Last season ended in August as my cv-joint was dead, the clutch dying and the gearbox on life support. But finally some news. Managed to find a ”new” gearbox (Thanks Gunnar) with a Torsen B instead of the original open diff-box, and a clutch and cv-joint from Rimmers.
Also I had the good fortune of getting a nice set of front seats from Gunnar (the drivers seat not yet swapped, clearly visible in the pics) and managed to get the new rear bumper resprayed. Not perfect but ok, and some new chrome trim is in the mail.
Today I picked it up from my local garage. Unfortunately no MOT yet. Battery is flat, maybe even shot, slave cylinder needs bleeding and brakes need some work out.
Shifting is great. Firm and solid. No noise from the box and the car goes in a very straight line.
Vacation tomorrow 600km from home so a bit reluctant to go really, but looking forward to next weekend when the MOT is scheduled...

Great news there Henrik! A little bit of fettling for you to do now and it should be all systems go for the MoT!

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
Finally some news. Had a great vacation in the south of Sweden and came back on Saturday attacking the Rover. Swapped the drivers seat on Sunday, bled the slave (must do it some more) and prepared for Swedish MoT on Monday.
So, went to the testing yesterday and unfortunately it didn't pass on the emissions. But good news is that everything else was good! The car has been standing since august so nearly one year and absolutely anything can go wrong in a car standing still too long!
Since yesterday I've also had an annoying intermittent starting problem which I located to be the earth strap between gearbox and battery. Unfortunately the battery was still dead (I hoped it would have been this, but it wasn't) but as I have some cars in my fleet the Honda had to give up it's battery. The fault itself is certainly to blame the garage swapping my gearbox, but I don't hold it against them as I really put pressure on them to get the car done by Friday night the day before we went to the west coast.
I also had an extra lambda sensor that was swapped just before dinner, so planning in getting it back for a second test tomorrow. Hopefully that will do the trick! Fingers crossed!

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
Is the fan coming on Henrik? If not change the coolant temperature sensor, they can really mess up the emissions on our cars.

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
You'll need to charge that battery Henrik - the earth strap was almost certainly the cause of it going flat but an alternator won't charge a flat battery.
If you jump start the car with the flat battery and leave the slave battery (used to jump it) connected for the first 10-15 minutes of it running, that will get some charge into the flat battery so the alternator will continue to charge it.
Only thing is MEMS will have lost its memory due to the dead battery so may take a while before it runs right again.
Might help to do a stepper motor reset - can't remember the exact procedure but it's the one where the ignition is switched on and off and the throttle pedal is floored 5 or 6 times - i'm sure someone will know what i mean and explain it properly, you probably know it yourself.
I think your car is old enough to still have the fan switch in the radiator isn't it? If so, Simons suggestion won't be much help but would be useful for the later models with MEMS controlled cooling fans.

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
Thanks guys,
Simon, the fan is coming on so I hope the cts is in order, changed it a few years ago. Did think about it though in the process, but the readings scream lambda sensor all over. If the next test fails, the CTS is fairly high in my list as I really don't want to mess with my cat!
Dave, the battery went flat as the car stood. Now, the battery is charged with a charger, off the car. The earth strap was loose after the gearbox swap, just a matter of tightening the bolt really. The issue was the starter never clicked, typical earth problem, and after trying with an extra lead between gearbox and chassis/negative battery pole the fault was simple, just finding the loose bolt.
The problem with the battery is probably (likely!) me being lazy not charging the battery properly while storing the car for 12 months... The Honda didn't like the battery either, fully charged. My plan was to use the Honda today believing the battery was ok, but it wasn't... That battery is shot...
Good point on the MEMS memory and the stepper motor reset. I do the reset it every now and then but haven't done it after hibernation! MEMS will be fine as I've driven the car some 100km but will do the stepper motor reset just to make sure.

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
So, no new test today but got a filter and am about to go and get some oil.
Also I started thinking about my plugs. I changed them last season and at that point I fitted iridiums as people with the 180bhp version of the t16 have been happy with them reporting better running etc. And they are a lot better in my engine than the bkr6e are but I changed them back anyway. Will be interesting to make the new test even though I wont know what it might have been... And the iridiums will go right back after the test once approved.

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
So the forum is back! Wohoo!
And so is my coupe! Passed the second run on the emission test so quite happy again. Oh I love to drive that car!
And I fitted a new intake Hose between the intercooler and Throttle body (last one had a tiny split) so now my digital boost controller actually holds a healthy boostlevel of 12.5psi all the way up to 5500rpm when it tails off some. Quick car that one!
Next on the list is to put on a new nice chrome trim to the bumpers. Got my hands on some very nice quality stuff from sumex.
Also getting a few wheel nuts swapped over thanks to ScoobyDave!
Oh and one more thing! I followed the example from Dave and insulated my boot with some good heavy sound proofing mats and the result is really impressive. A lot more quiet and very much noticable! Sorry no pics though. :/

All good news Henrik! I hope you're going to do a photo write up of fitting the new chrome trim? Need to do a few bits on mine so will look forward to that!
