I spotted it!! I did, i did, i did!! Can i have the lollipop? Oh go on, please, please, please? :D Oh. You've already posted the answer! :(

I've always wondered what it would look like with the reverse of what you have there, where the new bumper has the gold on the bumper line and black below, have gold below and a black bumper line. Come the warmer weather i might just buy some black Fablon or wide insulation tape and try it out.

Cheers,
Dave

On the other hand, I think that the black sills on an 800 coupe make them look lower and more sleek than the saloons.

Exactly what I was going to say. A lot VWs etc are like it now as all cars have grown in size.

Well the good news of the day is that the coupe passed its MOT.

It had 2 advisories, rear box - which was noted last year so i am surprised it has lasted this long and a pipe which has some corrosion on it. I took a picture of it earlier so i will post again when i have loaded it to photobucket.

All other things were fine especially the emissions which were excellent for a car with 150k on the clock.[/b]

Always a good feeling. Don't forget to add your car to the "first time pass" stats you posted up!

As I mentioned there were 2 advisories, one of them the back box and this pipe.

It is near to the fuel tank/pipes from the filler tube. What is it please and what should i do about it?

The picture is not that clear but it is the pipe in the centre of the picture and is partly covered by a little plastic cover.

Thank you

I whip off that plastic rust trap (sorry, cover), wire brush and treat to some Kurust then my favourite paint (you know - the one that begins with H).

It's one of the petrol pipes and that plastic cover is just a rust promoting device.

Thank you for that Richard. Do these pipe rust completely through very easily and are they easy to replace?

I've not seen one go right through - Kurust and paint has done the job so far. There are a load of skinny little fuel pipes between the tank and the floor of the car and they suffer badly, too - if you can get some spray rustproofer in there it might help them to last a bit longer. Access is pretty poor, though.

I think that's a brake pipe, on the nearside rear it goes via a 90' bend to join the rubber brake pipe to the calliper. and they use a metal block for it. I removed the cover on mine and cleaned and painted it. about 6 months later the rubber brake pipe were were it goes through a metal collier fitted to the suspension leg split . big problem trying to get a new brake pipe with that lump of metal on the end. had to go to a breakers and cut one off with about 2ft of the pipe that goes into the passenger area, and join it up to the existing.

I'm with Rich. That's definitely one of the fuel lines "protected" by the mud trap plastic cover. I agree with Rich. Ditch the cover and H*****ite the pipes. I replaced mine on one of my Coupes a few months ago. It was a devil of a job. You need to lower the tank for proper access. However, I think I could now possibly bodge the job with some deft fingerwork and a length of pipe and clips. Nasty.

Hmmm, me confused now!! Why can we not mention the name of that hammer finish paint but Kurust gets a mention? Unless i'm misinformed, they are both made by Finnigans as is a certain oily, waxy rust prevention treatment? Pleas enlighten me someone!!

Cheers,
Dave

Yep, its the mail fuel feed to the front of the car. My first gold Sterling chose to rust through at that exact point. I had the car ticking over on the yard for a few mins, came back to it to find a lake of petrol spreading under the rear of the car... Thankfully it stops when the engine is switched off, but makes the car pretty undriveable when it fails....

As Brad suggests, really need to drop the tank and replumb - with a mix of plastic fuel line and/or copper instead of the rubbish steel pipe Rover used to save a few pennies..
