Very very nice Phil. That colour looks good when clean/pollished up, suits it I think. T16 turbo engine too :D

This is a lovely car Phil, I remember when Kyle brought it to cars in the park a few years ago.

Although I only had her for a brief period, I'd spent 2 yrs looking for a good replacement for my old one!
I fully intended to take this one with me to Spain, but she just wasn't big enough  So Neil (Breitling) purchased her from me.

I too am glad she's gone to a good home.. :D

So, been doing a few things to this and the Gold Coupe.

The flange snapped/ rusted off the centre section other day, leaving me with a rather rumbly exhaust note.
Image

Went to KwikSh*t to get a quote for a centre section in comparison with Rimmers. Not listed. Bummer
Went to the local specialist to get a price on a stainless cat back, and the guy is on holiday for a week. He is good. Did Brian (Schuwolf's)

Decided to have a go at fixing it myself.

Made a sleeve to go inside to hold everything in place. Wrapped a piece of metal round an axle stand.
Image

Fitted it inside, couple of tack welds on the join, after a seam weld round the inside of the flange.
Image

Welded a plate round the outside, connected up and test ran.I left the centre section attached and poked out the side of the car while I welded it up.
One small whisper through a weld. Fixed that, applied a smear of exhaust paste, refitted and now perfect. If not better than original.
Phone went flat, so no pics of end product yet. Will post though. Took about 3 hours start (up the ramps) to finish (tools away).

So, after my addition of Volkswagen Cupholders in this thread, I thought I had better consolidate my changes and progress in the original thread.

My latest change is to remove the expansion tank:
Before:
Image

I made a little bracket for a Volvo 850 Expansion tank using the original mounting bracket cut off the 850 in the yard.
Image

Image

I have welded it onto a sheet of 1mm steel, cut to fit the original holes, and shaped to fit round the inner arch.

Image

Image

This then meant I could fit and hang the 850 tank properly.

Image

Image

I remembered to get the original hose to make the join.

Image

Tested, no leaks.
I also drew round the bracket to make a template, should it be needed.

I haven't cut the original hose, and have kept the original tank so should I choose to fit it for shows, I can :D

I have now come up with a new name for the make of my car:
Ro-wag-vo :)

Nicely done there, very similar to my own installation. I wouldn't rely on those cable ties for too long though, get a jubilee or similar on there asap.

Nice job - but watch out for the jubilee clips chafing on that aircon pipe. The Volvo tank has to be the way to go in the long term.

I'm going to move the hose, by making a longer, angled copper pipe, or cover it it insulation foam. Not decided yet.

Been a while since I updated this.

The exhaust I modded from the 827 back box had a couple of issues. It was a smaller more, sand the centre pipe started to disintergrate and I repaired it a few times but it became a joke.

Then a member of the facebook group popped a stainless up for sale.

It had done around 50 miles and was like new. Pukka Piper Performance system full cat back, with the two mating flanges so it can be used on the 2.7 engine too. Stonking piece of kit. Offered £250 and he took it. Had to drive from Croydon to Spalding and back to collect it though.

The one up from the bottom :)

To say the car now feels faster is an understatement. The 2.7 pipes must have been strangling it. And teh fact the Piper is a nice straight through pipe. Sounds awesome. Real presence, but no loud droning or resonance at any speed. Sounds good under load ;)

Gearbox still whines, think its the syncromesh. To be swapped with the internals of my original box.
Waterpump needs doing. Core plug behind the turbo weeps :(
Waste gate actuator rod rattles on lift off. Damned annoying to say the least!!
General seepage all over the engine

Engine and box out soon for a full rebuild I think. Just got to finish the Gold car. Thats coming along nicely AT LAST!!!!

---------------------------------------------------------
Also, a word of warning!!!!
---------------------------------------------------------
My gear linkage roll pin FELL OUT the other day. The clip around it has moved a couple of times, so check it regularly. Luckily it fell out in the car park, as i selected 1st to engage reverse! Found the pin, jacked up the car and nursed it home 3 miles. I have now fitted a split pin through the middle of the roll pin
Probably caused taking the box out 3 times in 2 years and have a free constant covering of oils on it....

I had the roll-pin fall out of the gear linkage on an Ambassador about 30 years ago Phil - first time on the motorway (i didn't have any RAC or similar then but the car was under warranty so not quite so bad) and second time on the way to see a potential new girlfiend.

It also happened a couple more times but luckily there was a plate held on by 4 Pozi-headed screws that caught the pin each time. Eventually i put an M5 bolt and nyloc nut on it as the garages repeated attempts with roll pins, plit pins and so on just didn't last.

As for the exhaust, nice one! I had the opposite, had a turbo exhaust on my 2.7 Coupé - flat as a fart, noisy, thirsty and gutless. Fitted the standard (smaller bore) 2.7 exhaust and it transformed the car completely - faster, quieter (much!), economic and went like the clappers.
The recipient of the Mongoose stainless turbo system (it was either a Mongoose or a similar Piper to yours) put it on his 2.0 Vitesse Coupé and reported similar to what i found - faster, quieter, less thirsty etc.

Just goes to show that one size doesn't fit all! :D
Cheers,
Dave
