Have E-mailed the seller. He has someone coming to look at it over the weekend (hmm) and if it is still available will be going to look at it on Tuesday.

Re: Police rover 800
Went to look at it on Tuesday.
I must admiit its in a lot better condition than I thought. (I know how much of a hammering police vehicles get. Coppers can break anything)
There is no corression in the usual places, no dash lift and the interior is remarkably clean. All the kit is there apart from the seek and search torch in the back.
158 thousand on the clock though and he wants £2000 for it.
He seems like a nice chap and has a collection of cars including an 820 Tickford and a Tickford Metro (which I'd never heard of). Will be going back tomorrow after work to have a look at it in daylight (it was in his garage on Tuesday) and take it for a teat drive.
What am I doing

Re: Police rover 800
There were essentially 3 "Tickford Metro's" . Tickford MG Metro, Tickford MG Metro Turbo, and the "Frazer Tickford metro"has a collection of cars including an 820 Tickford and a Tickford Metro (which I'd never heard of)
Very few survive and in certain circles they are highley sought after.
Unlike many "Tickford" styled cars, the Metro was given more than just a body kit as per the Maestro and 800.
http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/2011/07 ... -tickford/
As for £2k for an 800 of that mileage, even an ex force car, it would have to be exceptional for me to be interested.
Let us know how the "High Speed Persuit " test go's.

Re: Police rover 800
Nicely priced but it's good to collect these police models up, plenty of opportunity for some promo/film work maybe. Can't be that many of them still around in there original police livery!

Re: Police rover 800
Well I took it out yesterday
The vehicle was owned by the Met from 1990 to 1994 where it clocked up 152000 miles. It was then sold (with all its kit intact) to a film production company who used it for the Bill and other programmes. In 2001 it was sold off to a previous keeper and then through the police car club to the present keeper. From 1994 to the present it has done just over 6000 miles.
Good and bad points listed below
Good
It seems to drive well, kick down works efficiently and it pulls up in a straight line under heavy braking.
The original police maintanence book is present listing all the work done up in till it was sold off from the force.
Interior is nice with no dash lift,damage/copper inflicted hardship.
All MOTs back to 1994 present showing milage over the years.
Its a genuine not messed about with Met police vehicle in original condition
It has a current MOT
Bodywork is in really good condition with no rust in the usual places
Bad points
All the tyres will need replacing . A couple are badly cracked with age
There is a hissing sound coming from the heater element
The nearside door handle surround is cracked and barrel is missing(though he did say he had a spare)
It needs taxing
Headlining is sagging (which I knew about from the advert)
Sliding heating element knob broken off
Indicators seem erratic and did not work initially. But then started working.
Initially it wouldn't start but then fired for no reason (possible battery)
Two wheel centre caps broken (also in advert)
cable broken for filler cap
Gearbox last replaced by Police at 101000. Thats 50000 miles of hard use on that gearbox by the police in london
He claims the head was repaired by the previous owner but no receipts
The engine bay could do with a good clean
Vehicle only done 5000miles in last 17 years potential perishing problem re seals, pipe work etc
Thats as much as I can remember. Some points are quite minor and could be lived with (apart from the tyres which are not legal and very old) but being quite fastideous with my 800s would annoy me and would have to be done. It would cost me at least 6 to £700 pounds to make it road legal (tyres and tax).
I offered him £1500 which I thought was fair and he has said no, so I said I would think about it.
Any thoughts guys.
