My '98 Rover 820 SI Fastback Nightfire
This is my new (well '98) Rover 820 (shows 800 on the back) SI Fastback in Nightfire Red, it currently has 80,000 on the clock and the engine goes well. Probably the best car I have ever had for £400 and I even got £150 back on my insurance when I switched to it (somehow they think I'm more of a danger in a 1.3 Kia Rio!)
Managed to get a nice sunny patch today and spent a good 2 1/2 hours washing & waxing it, I think another couple of layers of wax and it will really shine again.

That looks very good in Nightfire with the 16" alloy wheels. It also looks about 6 months old. Nice job.
No longer an 800 owner!

That is looking superb, as his Very Tallness said.
Did you say were still hoping to get it to "shine again"??? Wow!

Re: My '98 Rover 820 SI Fastback Nightfire
Thank you Brad, there may be a couple of minor dents that need filling one day, luckily my camera isn't eager to show them off. I think maybe a bit more work on the engine bay too.
I love nightfire red, but it's a hard one to look after as it's prone to peeling off.
Thank you Mark, I may be becoming a bit of a perfectionist, it's only ever the rovers that get this kind of attentionm, the kia just gets a bucket of water thrown at it and a wipe down with some wax. On the rover there are still a few swirl marks when you look up close so it's going to get a layer of resin polish today which will take off yesterdays wax and hopefully fill the swirl marks and minor scratches, if not then some careful abrasive polish in areas where the lacquor has cracked then a layer or two of natural wax will turn it into a mirror.

That car would have been a steal at twice the price. Well done!

Your car looks lovely.
Are there many other jobs you have to do on it?

I was a little surprised when it ended with no more bids on it, I think the seller was too, but he was a man of his word and sold it for the final bid price. He also picked me up from Coventry train station in the price!aryan57 wrote:That car would have been a steal at twice the price. Well done!
Thank you. It could probably do with a service as it's just ticked over 80k this morning and some new brake pads on the front and maybe some new tyres in the new year.Simon Hubbard wrote:Your car looks lovely.

Other than the general wear and tear the dash could do with being replaced as, like many before it, it has lifted over the instrument panels and is currently screwed down. I will probably attempt the 'no more nails' approach first when it's a bit warmer and then try to fill the screw holes before I consider replacing it. One last thing there is a small dent on the passengers door and some scuffing on both bumpers.
All in all though, its not bad for a 14 year old car.
Maybe if I get the time one day I will take you up on that, I find cleaning cars quite relaxing!stanker wrote:I'll bet you twenty pounds you can't get mine looking that good.

I managed to get round to getting the resin polish out and some Simoniz wax... So after another 2-3 hours (can't remember when I started) and a numb arm this is what it looks like now. (hopefully the photo's will do it justice compared to yesterdays pics)
Now the outside is finished I can start on the inside

Re: My '98 Rover 820 SI Fastback Nightfire
Another R*** NOJ!
Let me guess sold at around 6000 miles with an almost full service history up to about 2005?
That looks gorgeous that, 820 manual I guess too?
As others have said, steal at £400! Reminds me of Dads 820 that I unfortunately cut short of life
Keep up the detailing! Best bit about the 2k lacquers is once you get them swirl-free they tend to stay shiny for a while.
Oh and they look a million miles more elegant with a black grille rather than creme IMHO (see Here or here

I was indeed, I decided to go for a spontaneous trip to my sisters in Manchester on Friday and had to make my way back down south today for work tomorrow.Lord Sterling wrote:Were you on the M40 today heading south?
The M40 was a bit mad earlier, no speed limit seemed to apply to most drivers!
