I can't answer that without the use of inappropriate language.Jon R wrote:How sad is that.
When I was reassembling my MGC GT after its body restoration in 1989, I was doing the work in the Officer's Mess carpark (I was stationed at RAF Brize Norton). Some bloke (who I later discovered was a senior officer) strolled past and started chatting about the car. I said something about having a deadline to meet as I was leaving for a posting in Germany in 3 weeks.
"What will you do with the MG?" he asked
"Drive it there" I said
"Then you'll buy a tax-free Audi or BMW?"
"No, I'll use the MG"
"What??????????"
"Yes", I said, "I hate the tossers who put beautifully restored cars on trailers and tow them to shows"
"I do that with my E-type" he said
"No comment" I replied whilst the word TOSSER went through my mind.
In the following 12 months I did 20,000 miles in that car all over Western Europe (it was 1989/90 and we weren't allowed into Eastern Europe). By the end of that time the car had reached 200,000 miles and I finally replaced the original engine with reconditioned unit.
If, as it would appear, that Thunderbird was a trailer queen the i have no sympathy for the owner whatsoever. John Turner (47p2) shows what can be done with a car which is driven to shows - prize after prize after prize.
