Rover 800 Owners Club at the NEC 2015

Post by tonewheeldude » Mon Nov 16, 2015 9:21 pm

Did anyone else on here manage to go along?

The club stand looked great, and I loved the 80s tech they took along :) Was very good to put faces to names too - had a really good chat with James and Sam. James, like me has an appreciation for the 80s and we had a good laugh, Sams is the car in the middle - he is a fairly young driver who chooses to own an 800 - obviously has great taste. I only spoke to Alex briefly, but all nice chaps. The stand was very busy and there was a definate buzz about the cars.

and I snuck back in after closing time:

Only thing I thought was missing was a nice Series One Fastback...maybe 2016. I am realy looking forward to the next 12 months of shows and events, I have been wanting to take 'Tara' along to more shows.

The stand was the "Forum Stand" put on by Alex and others who have done it the past few years.
It's listed as the "Rover 800 club" just for the NEC.
IIRC There have been Mk1's of both body types displayed previously, but each year they try to change things around a bit to keep it "fresh".
Likely next year a Mk1 Fastback will be included.

Mal is right, last year was only Series One cars. So maybe next year it will be a mixture? Because of the space its only possible to get three cars on the stand though. I am looking forward to the next 12 months, there should be some good events we can all take our cars to.

Glad to see the 800 represented at all! Well done to those involved.

Interesting point of pride is that my daily driver is now elegible for the Classic Motor Show (And is in fact older than at least two of the exhibits!!)

Some pics of this years Mk 2 stand, showing build up on Thursday with Alex's (ex Buckingham Palace) and Sam's Sterlings, and Mark's Coupe.
There is a lot of equipment to take.
The large cases containing the computers, monitors, electrical stuff, framed brochures and pictures provided by James and Alex.
Not forgetting the all important folding tables and chairs.
The carpets belong to Mark.
Sue and I took the lecterns (which have now survived 4 shows).
Benny and Malcolm also came along to give a hand.
Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the launch of the 800 series (9th July 1986), with a larger NEC stand planned for both Mk1 and Mk2's.

Great pictures, thanks Jon - the 800 stands looks really classy and really upmarket, amazing to think what Rover did at that time. Well done to all involved and hope to make it next year...

The lecterns looked realy good - a nice touch. Everyone did a super job - in preparation, setting up, folding down and manning the stand. It paid off from a publicity point of view too, as well as making us 800 owners feel good to see our cars there represented.

re: cortina - I think they do a 'barn finds' display. I quite like the idea actually - sometimes the car then reappears fully restored the following year!

Apparently the owner intends to restore it !
Other than that, an object of curiosity I think, it certainly attracted a lot of attention.
Same with the MG,and a Mk2 Cortina in a similar state.

Team work, but Alex takes credit for the video presentations, and James takes credit for framing the pictures and brochures.
