Waikato Rover Car Club, New Zealand monthly outing
We held our monthly outing on Sunday. This was the first fine weekend we had had for over a month.....so was good to see some of the older cars out. our club currently seems to have a few P5/B models in service at the moment, a few years back it was P6/B's that seemed to dominate!!
We visited a gentleman who has a 1951 Bentley and home built airplanes. The next stop was a gentleman who has a Bugatti that is worth a s**t load of money!! Sorry forgot to take pics of both those cars....was too busy trying to get pics of our club cars!!
The MG Montego is a turbo model that is our club presidents daily driver.
Our Waikato Club has around 25/30 members at present. The club is one of I think 8 or 9 regional clubs in New Zealand.

I think it is because NZ is still a fairly 'loyal to ole blighty 'country, at least most people that came here from England/Scotland/Ireland in the colonisation days did so by choice, not like a larger country next to us where they were sent there by Sentencing!!!!!CHR15E wrote:A bit of variety there.
What makes Rovers appeal over there?
For many years here British and then American cars were all that were available/affordable, untill the flood of used Jap imports that started in the mid 80's. Euopean cars were not overly represented for a while, though that has certainly changed now.
I grew remember us having an Austin A105, Morris 1100, Series 2 Morris Oxford, Wolseley 6/99 and then 6/110, Morris Marina 1750, Austin Maxi 1750 Dad had a a youngster a couple of Morris 8's, and when he and Mum married he had a Jowett Javelin. Which Mum always hated!!
I myself have owned the 1750 Marina (Australian example) which I bought off Mum, a Morris 1300, also Dad's Wolseley 6/110, and soooo many Triumph cars. Mainly 2000/2500 examples, though I did have a 13/60 Herald saloon and coupe for a while. One of my favourites was an 1854cc Dolomite, and I had a RWD 1500 Toledo for a while also.
My 2 fav 2000/2500 cars were my 1967 triumph 2000 Mk1 and a 1975 Triumph 2500 PI.
British cars are still around quite a bit and up till 10 years ago you would often see things like Humber 80's , and Morris/Austin 1100/1300's running around.
New rust laws have seen alot of cars disappear now, often due to uneconomic repair costs.

Over here they have got quite tough on rust, and with the cost of cars being comparatively cheap, especially due to the flood of used Jap imports we had, people often find that unless they really are attached to or are car enthusiasts etc, the cost of repair often outweighs the value of the cars, so they get scrapped.CHR15E wrote:That's a new one, how does that work?rovering wrote:New rust laws have seen alot of cars disappear now, often due to uneconomic repair costs.
A prime example is my 1971 Rover P6B, which i recently sold to a fellow club member. He pulled the panels off the car and found alot of rust, especially in the roof and roof supprt area. He has decided that it is not economically viable to repair. so the car is now going to be stripped for parts. Admittedly the car had done over 400,000 miles and was on its second engine. But mechanically was very very good.
From some photos i have seen of cars being fixed in the UK, you guys would cry at the 'wanton destruction' of a classic car!!!
