I couldn't decide which to buy so I bought both. Both excellent cars, both low miles, both air con, both petol, 204 bhp. The silver car is manual, 27000 miles from new, the green is auto with 69000 miles and leather. These really are very comfy, very underrated cars.

After looking at your SWB I started having a flick through ebay at them.

Aside personal preference, which is the better of the gearboxes?

It strikes me that the tailgate would be better opening the other way? Do you find it works well as it is?

The tailgate is fine either way. The swb series 1 I had was hinged on the drivers side. This series 2 lwb is hinged on the passenger side.

Either way is fine.

The 3.2 engine is the same 24v fitted in the last of the Omegas.

I prefer the auto as that is what I prefer anyway. However, the autos on the Fronteras have a poor reputation for reliability. Also, if your main reason for wanting one of these is for towing, snow etc, then a manual is always easier to control in difficult situations.

Just get both if you have the space (which you do). They are cheap enough nowadays and parts are easy to find.

I had the 3.0v6 in my Omega, very nice engine and very similar to the 3.2, need to keep an eye out on the oil breathers and there is a gasket that leaks oil into the spark plugs (both easy fixes) other than that a lovely smooth engine. On my car i found the auto box wasn't as good as a 800's a few times it seemed to be in the wrong gear but that may have been down to my car rather than them in general.

I had one of these brand new in 2004 , one of the last of the line.
Despite my love of all things MG/Rover i have to say it is the best car i ever owned , 5 years of hassle free driving , the thing took me anywhere, in any weather fully loaded .....fantastic car you wont regret it im sure....

My only regret was to sell it last year for a ztt which turned out to be a pile of poo ( the only bad one from longbridge ive ever had i might add )

I agree they are underrated.

Only yesterday, my silver Frontera was put into service to drag the corpse of a wheel less Sterling 50 yards onto the ramps of a recovery lorry as it was too far away to be winched. Effortless.

Across concrete. Very noisy. Like chalk on a blackboard.

Silver manual car now sold.

Green automatic car now on sale. £995 no offers (was £1395). Taxed til 30th May, MoT November, Cambelt done, new shocks all round, major service done. Great value and must go this week.

Both to be replaced soon with a newer 3.2 V6 version 2003 (53 plate) - one of the last made. Great cars.

Very nice looking cars. What are they like reliability wise, i've heard some say good some say not so good?

Got to be very good value at £995 looking at the pictures, but too modern for me personally.

I have had no trouble other than a faulty coil on the green car I am selling. Or to put it another way... so sound and reliable, I keep buying 'em.

Never been a fan of the Fronteras though I'm not against Vauxhall completely, I owned an old Vauxhall Senator years and years ago.

Straight six, automatic, leather - ah, those were the says.
