Plenty of "Arabian Snow" (sand) though. Basically, a bit of load space, some off road capability, big(ish) road presence and the ability to pull a trailer of camping gear. Fun car, in other words.

Only the newer Grand Cherokees were V8's. Pre about 99, they were straight 6s.

Ideal for all of that. They aren't actually that big but compared to most normal cars they're large enough that people keep out the way over here.

Chris, the Grand Cherokee will certainly be bigger and more practical inside than either my Lumina or the Kia Soul (both of which will be staying in the family).

I was considering a Grand Voyager or LWB Chevy Astro (not to be confused with an Astra) but most of the ones I've seen have had a hard life and the Jeep's history is known to us.

Should be a few days - the seller has to get an "MOT" done (and passed) and then the re-registration takes a few minutes at the local traffic office. Of course, if it fails the test then there will be some rectification to do before the re-test. The test centre and registration office are closed on fridays and have limited hours on saturdays and it's been a public holiday all week so there will be a bit of a backlog.

Local rules require an "MOT" pass in the 28 days before the transfer of ownership - an idea that I think makes sense in principle. It should help keep wrecks off the road......................................

The test costs £20, the transfer costs £50 and annual re-registration is £35 or so. Insurance is based on vehicle value and third party liability (i.e. damage to other vehicles) so will be nice and cheap for an oldie like this.

We could have a 4WD section - with Mal's Landrover and JT's Range Rover
