Been Jeeping
My mate Joe asked me if were going for a play in the Jeeps this afternoon. Nothing too fancy really. Just a little play.
Not many pics of mine, mostly Joe's and a few vids.
After the event, Joe tried harder than me.
I was trying to make a mess in this bit but it didn't work.
Joe going up and down the hill, there's a very nasty drop at the right. Look at the pics below and you'll work out what happened.
Joe got a bit excited and broke his bumper, lost a fog light, broke the other and his number plate.

Looks like fun. I doubt that mine has ever been driven in mud, but I did manage to rip off a foglight on a dune a couple of weeks ago.
We're thinking about getting a Jeep Cherokee (XJ) or Grand Cherokee (ZJ) for use over here. Looking on ebay, most of the diesels seem to have some sort of major fault but the 4L petrols generally seem to be OK and loads have LPG fitted.

XJs are really cramped Rich for a family IMO. You need a Grand like ours as a comfy environment.
The the XJ has far more choice on the transfer box for offroading though, if that's a consideration?
I hate diesel and wouldn't buy one. Get one on LPG if you need the saving, though where I live it's a pain. Joe's getting fed up of his. Needs to make a special trip to fetch gas.

That's pretty much the way I was thinking - the XJ is a nice looking car but small. Quadratrac or Selectrac would be fine - there's not too much difference in capability (many people claim that the Quadratrac is actually better).
We were also talking about a 75 but I like the idea of having the same model of car at each location - I know my way around a ZJ pretty well now and it saves having to mug-up on something new.

I'd go for another Grand Cherokee if it were me of those choices unless you were looking at a 75 Tourer. Saloons don't do anything for me as they're largely useless if you need to carry anything.

I know that it got a laugh on another forum (or two) but I still like the idea of sticking a Rover 800 bodyshell on top of the chassis and running gear of a Discovery 1 or 2/Range Rover Classic. Unfortunately, the 800's wheelbase is a bit long at 109" but the R8 is perfect at 100".
Pity I don't have the time for it.

You need a LWB one as they do 110s in them.Richard Moss wrote:I know that it got a laugh on another forum (or two) but I still like the idea of sticking a Rover 800 bodyshell on top of the chassis and running gear of a Discovery 1 or 2/Range Rover Classic. I was thinking along those lines the other day.
I don't need more ideas.
