Re: What is your latest purchase?
I have just this week treated myself to a much needed 'heat gun' for reasonable dosh via a Homebase store.
I really don't know how I've done without one for so long, it is so under rated!! Particularly if one uses a crappy hair dryer!

They're surprisingly useful even for unthought of tasks - they make quite a good shed heater as well!

Hi Charles, Good to meet you on Saturday and put a face to a name.
When leaving the car park I noticed that you had a lower cladding trim missing. Do you have the part and have not had chance to re-attach or is it lost?
If lost I may be able to help you out from my spares.

Likewise Steve, it was a pleasure to meet you and some others, and finally putting faces to names after so many years of lurking on here!rovercoup wrote:Hi Charles, Good to meet you on Saturday and put a face to a name.

I'm not sure if I have the part, so I would be very grateful to you for offering me that please.
I need to replace the wing on that side (which I have) since that's also abit shot at now.
You may have heard, or read on 'face-ache' the unfortunate incident I had immediately driving back from near Longbridge, unwittingly driving over a severe pothole with a catastrophic thud/wholop!
I was only going about 20mph! Fortunately, the car is fine, but the wheel is well and truly buckled out on both rim edges, and the fairly new tyre I had put on, shredded to bits.
Drove pretty much home like that, because I only had my crappy wrench tool and not the extendable one I use in the home garage. Tried to call the RAC out but couldn't get through to them either, so I took the risk (silly risk) driving home pretty much with this damage at 70mph.
Wont do that again but, I HAVE LIVED TO TELL THE TALE!

That's a nuisance about that pot-hole Charles! Looking at your "sig-pic" it looks like you have Mk1 Prestiges on there? Going to be tricky to find a replacement unless you know something i don't?

Re: What is your latest purchase?
This is an old picture Dave. I replaced the wheels and tyres with 17inch Vit sport ones. I put pictures in the car works thread more recently, if you want to view here http://rover800.info/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 63#p142963scoobyh123 wrote:That's a nuisance about that pot-hole Charles! Good news today though. The tyre will be replaced free of charge, with the same specification, since I have been able to produce evidence of the guarantee I took out last October when I purchased these 5 Avon Tyres for the 17inch wheels. The replacement wheel will be ready tomorrow afternoon - 4pm at the latest. Hopefully, will have the brand new spare tyre, on this refurb wheel tomorrow, or Sat!

Indeed Dave.scoobyh123 wrote:Good news all round then Charles!
Looking forward to driving it when the non-cat exhaust is fitted to feel any difference in power/performance/idle.
I would think it will be slightly noisier than it is now, with the catalyst removed, but worth it.
I have also added more sound deadening to the car within the last year as well, so this should counteract any new exhaust noise/vibrations.

Re: What is your latest purchase?
It should be a lot livelier Charles (about 25bhp according to Rovers figures), more economical (if you don't use the extra bhp) and slightly "sportier" on the exhaust note.
A little tip to make the best of the non-cat pipe, remove fuse "S" from the engine bay fusebox for 5 minutes and then replace it before taking it out for a drive. This will reset the parameters the PGM-Fi ECU has learned to factory so it can then relearn them to make the best of the exhaust.
What sort of sound deadening did you add? I'm going to be adding some to my Sterling soon and probably the Coupé at some point in the future.

Yeah it might just turn my hair a shade of charcoal, or a darker combination of gun metal greydeano wrote:Charles827si wrote:I have just this week treated myself to a much needed 'heat gun' for reasonable dosh via a Homebase store.

Re: What is your latest purchase?
Well the mechanic attempted to change the centre section over today, but he says it is about 3" shorter than the standard Mk2 cat/centre section. So if possible what I'll do is get the rear box made up in stainless with 3" extra pipe.scoobyh123 wrote:It should be a lot livelier Charles (about 25bhp according to Rovers figures), more economical (if you don't use the extra bhp) and slightly "sportier" on the exhaust note.

Cheers for the useful diagram info, and fuse recommendations.
The sound deadening I got from 'Halfrauds'. I can't remember what was written on the cardboard packaging, but I can look tomorrow. They may have it on Halfords website though.

Re: What is your latest purchase?
It's not as simple as that with the exhaust - it's the middle section that's too short at the front end - see your other thread i've just replied to for more details.
I bought a roll 5m long, 1m wide and about 3mm thick of self-adhesive sound deadening via ebay a few months back - the plan was to get it fitted before the weather broke but i was ill for quite some time so very little happened. I was wondering if what you got was similar and if it made much difference?
