Random thought - Electric usage
Evening all.
Just been looking at our household electric usage (exciting stuff I know)!
I've long known that it's excessive, story of my life I guess?
I'm just curious if anyone has any idea of what they consume (KWh rather than cost if you know) over a typical month/year so I can see just how bad it really is.
They tell me what's average but an idea of real world figures would be nice as a comparison.
Thanks

12 months, 4,770 kWh. Two in the house, gas combi boiler, gas cooker. The drier gets minimal useage.

Re: Random thought - Electric usage
About what I was expecting.
There's only 3 of us, all of which work full time so no one in the house all day. We use around 11000 kWh per year.
We use the shower several times a day and the washer and drier are over used by listening to other people. Minimum of twice a day, more at weekends for bedding etc.
Almost everything we have is pretty efficient otherwise, TV's etc. The single biggest thing we don't do though is switch anything off.
I found using a power usage socket gadget for example that a Virgin TV box uses the same power in standby as when on. Not much, only around 13-15 Watts each but when there's 5 of them that mounts up? Especially as said before in the day no one's here so they sit doing nothing.
I'm not looking to start switching off things at the wall as that's just a pain. Just want to be a little more sensible with obvious things.
We'll see if it makes any difference.

Re: Random thought - Electric usage
What about these companies that pester you endlessly to have solar panels all over your roof?
(~20 year payback though, who knows if they are still going to live in the same house that far from now!!)

Re: Random thought - Electric usage
Electricity 2134kwh from July '14 to '15
Gas 1384kwh or 124 cubic meters same period.
Although I was demolishing and rebuilding the house from April 2014 and only moved in properly in May with 3 lodgers.
I suspect my annual readings would be closer to:
4000KWh Electricity
2000KWh Gas
LED lights everywhere, all new A++ or A+++ appliances, gas combi, induction cooker, two microwave ovens, two non-electric showers.
The house currently has no insulation in the walls worth a damn (American style timber frame, clad in asbestos cement, no insulation in between studs!) It will have 200mm of External wall insulation fitted, it has double glazing and 120mm of roof insulation (it's the phenolic stuff which means that 120mm is = 400mm of mineral wool)
£38/month current bill for both fuels...

Don't think I could make mine that cheap unless I moved out.
