Nice setup, how many gadgets are you feeding with that?

I have separate routers set as access points on mine to maintain full speed on WiFi and Ethernet ports where I need them.

If I were rewiring the house I'd look at other methods but not worth it now.

I like the way it says on Petes speed test above Dusans "Slower than 93% of GB" then on Dusans it says "Faster than 92% of GB"!

You have to hand it to Sky though - on Petes in Cornwall it says the server is London <50 miles. On Dusans it says Luton ~ 50 miles. At least Virgin is about right in the distance estimation!

Dave

I wired my whole house for Cat 6 ethernet during the refurb.

Four bedrooms, each with 2x ethernet ports.

Twin ethernet ports in lounge and stair cupboard for a server connected to a monitor for TV purposes (no point in television or Sky/Virgin with the interwebs :-) )
Oh and running home theatre style audio system through the ethernet cable (because numpty here forgot to fit CoAx...)

Four ethernet cables near the boiler and extractor fans plus an ethernet cable near each radiator for future plans RE: RasPi and true smart home. Plans include switches on the doors and windows, electronic radiator valves, automated extractor fans, all connected to the cloud and running an app on the smartphone, knows where I am and how long it will take for me to get home therefore make sure home is warm when I arrive and automatically turns off when I leave.

Monster TP link router gives me full signal dual band WiFi within my property boundary, though I will be fitting an access point in the shed (when it is built) to ensure summer evenings in the garden are covered. That router is the most powerful in terms of radio signal strength you can legally buy, there is a Cisco one you can hack with a firmware update but it risks nuking itself!

Not much in other words

Oh and a more recent speedtest rather than one from last year:

Impressive, I like that kind of tech but no use here as the house is rarely empty for long. Plus both women are nesh which pretty much means it's on all the time anyway.

Got any links to the router? I'd be tempted to switch to 1 instead of 3 if it coped ok.

Only had the router on the back yard for phones originally but running a TV and other things now. It was based in a shed originally but I've taken it down now a better signal from the house would be good. It was still getting 40mbps but with the extra access point it's 150 so I want that.

I hear you RE: the female thermostat

Jokes aside, here's the router

Spendy but worth it.

My house has foil backed plasterboard in places which just kills normal WiFi, no problems with this router.

I appears that Three have gone down in the storms last night so I've had to switch my broadband back on.

Oh dear.

Not as much as I thought you'd you say tbh. I'll order one and try it. :D

Got the router earlier, so far so good.

It's definitely an improvement at distance speed wise though I'm not seeing the capacity of the connection.

Just need to sort out wiring now to get the hard drive to be seen on the rest of the network.
