On patios, decking, driveways, in garages, behind/beside sheds - oh yeah and in friends gardens too! In fairness said friend had borrowed them to get through the MoT as his are quite low (nowhere near illegal, just didn't want an advisory) and so are his funds for now.

Last time you had snow we had a few flakes here as well, i wonder if we'll get more this time? The sky has had that odd pinky/yellowy/greyish tinge about it lately that usually precedes snow.

Why would you need triple glazing in a log cabin, wearing a reindeer skin?

To keep the reindeer warm of course! Poor thing is freezing his bits off as you've got his skin! No wonder Rudolf has a red nose - he's got a stinking cold!

Haha, yes the reflections tell: We have triple glazing. About 20 years ago it started to get more and more usual and today most new sold are triple in Sweden. We got new windows all around 2-3 years ago and the difference in price is not that big. The biggest plus in not the insulation af cold, two glass windows are almost equally good, but it keeps sound out a lot better. We live fairly close to the motorway and also not far from Arlanda airport and even though it wasn't really a problem before, the house is now very quiet.

Plus we do get short bursts of temps dropping to -30 every year and with a week of that kind of cold you really need every little bit of help.

Some of the worst sound insulation problems we have here with double glazing is the fact it hasn't been fitted properly - the frames aren't making good contact with the walls. This means there are gaps all round the frame so not only does sound get in but draughts too, kind of defeats the object of double glazing!

Have to say i'm surprised that triple is only slightly more thermally effective than double, i would have thought both sound and temperature insulation would be improved with the third section of glass.
Cheers,
Dave

I'm not an expert but apparently the double glazing often comes with higher "temp saving" technique than three glass. The frames look the same and the glass look the same (like moulded compact cassettes) And they are factory made. The glass is not merely fitted in the wooden frame but built with vacuum (or even some strange gas?) in between. High tech. And the glass has some kind of coating to make some more magic with sun rays and heat loss etc.

I think the guidelines for carpenters and builders are very strict here so generally houses are built very well with high quality specs, quite solid and robust compared to most of the countries over Europe. Kind of like if the entire population was living in an old Volvo... :)

There's enough room in an old Volvo Henrik!    Good heater too so no need for extra glazing on it!

A friends double-glazed bedroom window was letting a lot of draughts round the edge and he happened to lean on it one day - think he was cleaning it - and found out why. It was only held in with 2 screws, both halfway up, one on each side! He's had it sorted out since and also sprayed some expanding foam filler round it to seal it and now doesn't have any draughts round it.
Cheers,
Dave
