Sounds like my kind of car Rick - fast, comfortable cruiser with all the toys!

Knowing we're a similar age i can definitely relate to the need for comfort!

haven't done much since october.. the tank is assembled ready to refit on the car with new swirl pot and jag fuel pump.. am tempted to line the tank on the inside to ensure it is sealed properly, but am umming and areing about it, mainly because it appears to be galvanised inside and out with little ot no rust... the front subframe is mounted but needs finishing am waiting for more new metal and helicoils... the brake servo and throttle pedal assembly is mounted in the repaired and modified bulkhead... the abs pump is also fitted to the bulkhead.. next will probably be stripping the jag fully to get rid of the shell, and updating the pics on photobucket... regards ricky

If it's the Jag tank (XJ40 type) i don't think i've ever heard of those leaking because they were galvanised. I know the old Series I/II/III cars had leaky tanks as they were pressed steel in a sort of vague "clamshell" that was spot welded with some sort of seam-sealer to prevent the amber nectar leaking prematurely.

You've still made good progress though, looking forward to the updated pics too! :D

Dave

Aaaaaaah! I've no experience of those, sorry!

Sounds like we both have a busy weekend, my coupé just failed the MoT on emissions due to the front Lambda sensor failing when the pipe went up the exhaust to do the test!

Good luck with your helicoils, they're fun at the best of times! :D

Dave

am drilling the chassis to mount the subframe, and helicoiling the bolt holes rather than relying on the metal of the chassis, it is 2 c sections welded together to form a box... so about 3 mm thick doubled.. so helicoil to give strength and stability, then later will be welded... have my rover booked in at work tomorrow for mot as well... regards ricky

Hope you have better luck with the MoT than i did! I wonder if my efforts to remove the old front pipes and the manifold studs were anything to do with the dead Lambda? Either way, i've ordered a pair just to be on the safe side.

Sounds like you're doing a belt and braces job there anyway! :D

I haven't seen the pics yet Rick but would it maybe be easier to modify the coolant pipes rather than the radiator?

Dave
