That sounds a very good plan Marc - let me know how it goes?
I was going to suggest trying another instrument pack but knowing how hard it is getting hold of spares, didn't think you'd have one!
Good luck with it, hopefully that will fix the problem! :D
Well it is installed and the fuel gauge seems to be correct now. However, the temperature gauge does not work even with the earth test. Maybe i have to clean the plugs. Will make some calls.

Love those videos!

That looks a great stable mate for your 827.

The fuel gauge works, good news - how about the oil pressure gauge? If that works as well then it points more to the temp gauge itself, perhaps you could swap the old temp gauge into the new assembly to prove the point? It might even work correctly with the new assembly, especially if my idea about the voltage regulator is correct.
Cheers,
Dave

Hello, :D

The fuel works, the oil pressure works and trip computer works. Yesterday me and my friends put some contact spray on the plugs and the temperature gauge worked again but with the earth test also only went to about 60 degrees as the maximum. Same as before. Maybe a fault in the wire?

It certainly sounds that way Marc - if you can identify which terminal on the back of the instrument cluster is the one for the temp sender connection and run a wire from that to a convenient earth (somewhere behind the dash) to prove the gauge then take the wire direct to the temperature sender, this will show whether the fault is the gauge or the wiring.
If memory serves correctly there is a multiplug where the engine loom connects to the main car loom, it may be worth finding and separating the two halves of this, squirting contact cleaner in it and then making/breaking this join a few times before finally remaking it - this may be the cause/cure of the problem.

Sorry if this sounds a bit vague, it's so long since i last had an SD1 a lot of the memories are now a bit blurred through time! Hopefully there's enough there to be helpful though! :D

Dave

Again a elaborate, clear and good advice! Thanks!

I will try that with the plugs. This weekend i go to a meeting with the SD1 and hopefully the temperature gauge is oke again.

Thanks again and i will keep you posted!

Sorry for my late response. But i am happy to say i graduated last week. :D
The SD1, yes wel the gauge is stil not working. I did follow your great advice in cleaning the plugs etc but sadly no succes. Hopefully a Rover specialist knows what to do. I heard it is probably the voltage regulator.

But the SD1 drove great during the meeting. Drew a lot of growd.

I recognise that road from your 827 pics!

More brilliant photos Marc and yes, almost certainly the voltage regulator. Been trying to find a solid state one to link to for you but as yet no luck.
Cheers,
Dave

Thank you! Yes it is the same road. Great surroundings and not bothering anybody.

I contacted a company who can help in regards to the voltage regulator.

Good news on the voltage regulator Marc! I'm having a spot of bother trying to find an electronic flasher relay for mine as i want to fit LED indicator bulbs but don't want to have to use ballast resistors to mimic a bulb.
You'd think as the Freelander used the same flasher relay (FL19 designation) there would be loads of electronic versions available but no!

Either way that's a lovely looking bit of road, ideal for giving the suspension a workout on the bends! ;) :D

Dave

Yes i hope that the company can sort it out.

Yes the road is lovely. Also the dike that is next to it is lovely with the shipping on one side and the lowlands on the other. :)

Good luck with your search! :D

Thanks Marc - we have plenty of dykes round here too - i'm in east Anglia which is almost all reclaimed land but very few areas where there is shipping on one side of the dyke and beautiful countryside the other. Residents of certain areas may argue that point but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and i don't think our countryside n the areas i'm on about is beautiful!  :D
