1982 Rover 3500 V8 Vanden Plas automatic.
Hello all,
As you know i am the owner of a lovely 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse in the colour steel grey. Recently i bought a Rover SD1 as well.
1982 V8 Vanden Plas with just 108.000 km on the clock. The colour is oporto red and it is just stunning. It was owned by a Swiss restaurant owner who used it to burble around the mountains to buy food for the restaurant. his restaurant owner brought it to a friend of mine who has a Rover garage. This friend of mine approached me and said i would be the perfect owner for the SD1. It was not pampered but well maintained. The interior and exterior did need some TLC and maintenance was done. In april i flew to Switzerland to work on it with my friend and drove the SD1 back to the Netherlands. At home i continued the cosmetic refresh.
-Engine oil/filter changed.
-Gearbox flushed/filter changed/ gasket changed.
-Brake fluid changed.
-New headlights installed because the old ones had dirty reflectors.
-New tires.
Cosmetics done.
-Roof painted.
-boot lid painted.
-Emblem hood changed.
-Window frame primed and matt black.
-Rust under window removed/rust remedy/primed/lacquer/clear lacquer.
-Rust near the left rear wheel removed/rust remedy/primed/lacquer/clear lacquer.
-Painted the bumpers.
-Exhaust sanded down, painted with heat resistant paint.
-Spare tire housing painted (outside visible below the bumper) with stone chip spray and matt black.
-Sills painted matt black.
-Steering wheel was changed.
-Wood partially changed for better examples.
-Washed/polished.
This is how the SD1 looked.
Work started:
Headlight change:
Looks much better after a clean and the new grey steering wheel!
Importing the car in the Netherlands:
At home i continued:
Today i made some pictures of the result!

Quite stunning, always would have liked a Vitesse SD1 myself to go with my 820 Vitesse.
The dash design was ahead of its time cleverly being equally split for left hand/right hand drive modular conversion.
Again, beautiful car in a lovely colour.
Enjoy.

I love SD1's, I have two! Oporto red is such a great colour too especially with a pale interior.

Marc are you a member of the Rover sd1 club? They have quite an active forum if you ever need parts or advice.

Re: 1982 Rover 3500 V8 Vanden Plas automatic.
Did another job on the SD1. The previous owner did some repair and primed it so it would not rust. A few days ago i cleaned the surface so that i could let the fresh paint flow over in the old paint. Colour coat, clear laquer to minimize the difference and looks fine. Worked out fine if you asked me.

Finishing:
Clearly i am not a pro but i am quite pleased.

Hi Marc, yesterday was the rover sd1 National rally at Chateau Impney near drotwich birmingham. It was a great event with 72 Rover SD1's and there were at least 2 from the Netherlands and 2 from France. Next years event is already in the planning. The dates are 11th to 13th August and it will be at Wroxall Abbey Warwickshire.
Ive put some photos up from yesterday at...

That's a nice collection of SD1s there! I had 7 of them some years back and a friend recently sold his last one about a year or so back.
Little bit of information about the Police Rovers used in "The Bill" (someone is asking further up the thread you linked to, i'm not on retro-rides so can't add it myself) and also by the Met at the time - i can't remember when The Bill started but i know the Met had a few SD1 V8s that they kept unregistered for a while until they needed them. Also from the late 80s, they used the 827 instead, one of which is owned by Kate (TDH Fastback) on here and between the Mets ownership and hers, it was owned by a production company and featured in The Bill. The same 827 has also been on Police Scams and Corruption - oops, i mean Police, Camera, Action!
Of course there is a famous Police Camera Action episode featuring 2 V8 SD1s, filmed in 1987, commonly known as "The Liver Run" :

If i can find the episode with the 827 in it, i'll let you know!
