Getting the old girl ready for MOT. (NOT an 800 !)

It's been a couple of years since this old girl was MOTD and on the road. To be honest, she has been neglected, standing out in all weathers. Carpets have rotted with the damp, leather gone hard, rust spots appearing....

Brought her home a few weeks ago. She fired up after 12 months unstarted with just a quick clean of the points-as she always does. Just spent a couple of hours checking her over. No major problems so MOT booked for Friday, which I expect her to pass with ease.

Leather fed and softening, car cleaned, electrics checked. Going to have to spend a bit of money on a respray I think. I was in two minds whether to sell her or not, but I just can't. A family heirloom.

:D

It is a nice car. I have always loved the very early cars and when this one turned up in my favourite Wedgwood Blue a decade ago, I couldn't refuse. It also helped that it's a Rover factory development car and has some interesting features. (Experimental gearbox/axle and suspension bushes.) The gearbox and axle are from one of the original P6 rally cars and endow it with very rapid acceleration-its MUCH quicker than any other 2000 I have driven. 8)

Once its MOTd, I have to see if I can save up for new paint. I have a set of NOS panelwork up the loft and the shell is completely rot free so it shouldn't be too hard to get it near mint. It's just time and money....

My uncle had a 2Ltr in navy blue. It was great fun to ride in, very fast and comfortable on the front 'settee'. At the time (1970's) we had a Ford Cortina Mk2, so it was a real treat..
I remember it had reg no REF 1, but this came off ot when he sold the car. He allegedly sold the number many years later to a professional football referee, probably for more than he got for the car..
Good luck with this one , it looks excellent. 8)
