Brad - ROVER SD1 Vanden Plas EFi 3500
Picked this up yesterday and drove it home from Bridgwater - 90 miles on the M5. I averaged 10 mpg. A bit less than I hoped!
I have photographed it against one of my 800 Fastback Vitesses. The rear window angle is identical. The car is 100% standard apart from the huge stainless exhaust. It is extremely loud -TVR loud!

Very nice Brad, and with regards to the 10mpg, this i way i have a 800 vitesse not a sd1 vitesse.............maybe one day though, its one of the list of cars i have always promised myself. Along with the lotus carlton, the mgzt 260, lotus sunbeam, vectra vxr.the list goes on

Looks good Brad. I have a late carb VDP (1986) has a 3.9 in it. Even that got me 28 mpg on a long trip. Something definetly wrong there!

I took it for a run today and the computer read 22 mpg. I don't trust the computer, though.
Maybe I was leathering it too much up the motorway...

According to Kev Clark, the EFi's aren't as good on fuel as the standard carburettor models, but even so, 10 is ridiculous. Although if that was read off the computer, I wouldn't expect that to be very reliable - even mpg calculators on modern cars (ie friend's company cars that get replaced every 6 months) aren't accurate. If you need them, I have a NOS pair of Rossini Brake disk's for an SD1 out of the barn stock.

The fuel consumption is what I calculated. £35 in the tank in Bridgwater. Another £45 in Cheltenham. Got home (Evesham) and nipped out to Worcester and back and the light was flashing again. Around 120 miles, £80. At £6 per gallon, that's about 9mpg.
Today, filled up and went about 40 miles. Half a tank gone. This is assuming the gauge is linear.
My first SD1 was when I was 19 (1979). It was two years old and already rusting badly across the bonnet and in the doors. It flew. I sold it to my mate who parked it up a tree. And that was that.
I had a V8S around 1984. It was lime green and another crock of poo. But sounded great and looked the part. I recall one of my old school mates dad's had an identical car. He was a high flyer and was a bit racked off that his son's mate had the same car as him. They had gold alloys if I recall correctly.

The V8S.............Lime Green and gold alloys and only a 1000 built, should have stored that one Brad. Only a designer wearing wing collared shirts and flares could come up with Lime Green and gold alloys.

That's the one. I was just a kid of about 24. Lewis' dad was about 45, I reckon. Not a happy daddio when I parked on his drive in the twin to his company car! My dad beat him at golf, too.
I have another SD1. And a 213SE with LOW miles for the American collector. It's getting a touch crowded here right now.
I have garaging for around 30 cars at home but I am now looking to rent somewhere local and will be looking at a warehouse unit tomorrow where I can store around 50 cars securely. It isn't cheap, is it?

Storage for rent is never cheap Brad.
The barn I rent is cheap in comparison to modern facilities, but has major issues hence a lower rent.(but still several thousand per year.)
IIRC my former local authority wanted £7000 per year for 900sq feet +rates + services etc, which made it over ££8000 per year.
Ed had a unit for a while, and found it far too costly to keep up long term.

The last one I had in Birmingham was over £2200 per month and stored 50 cars but I let that go a while back now when the recession began. I bet it is still empty!

Seems cheap per car - compared to what I have to pay for only a few spaces of (good quality) underground parking. But indeed, storage cripples any idea of even high value cars being a sound financial investment...
