Forum Upgrade and Downtime

I'm pleased to say that the test forum seems to have worked well and given the immense problem that spam registrations are causing I am going to press forward with the live upgrade.

With this in mind I will perform the upgrade on the morning of Friday 20th (this Friday!). This means that the forum will be offline for approximately 2 hours from 10:00Hrs until 12:00Hrs (UK time).

This is quite a major upgrade so there is a possability the work might over run. In the event it does I will post updates the the test forum @ http://rover800.kingdomsystems.co.uk.

If you have any further comments or concerns regarding the upgrade then now would be a good time to check out the test forum (http://rover800.kingdomsystems.co.uk/phpBB3 and post your feedback here

As I, and all others have said before, thank you for your hard work on this. It's really appreciated.

As we go to the Mk2 forum I'm wondering if we should add a fancy grille and more wood. I doubt there will be any dash lift with this mk2 though!

Once switched over will we still keep the original address or will it be taken over by the new one?

However, I suggest that everyone should bookmark the test forum address ( http://rover800.kingdomsystems.co.uk/ ) just in case. Hopefully all will be well but it's wise to be prepared.

Isn't it ironic that when I tried to send out a mass email to the forum members to notify them of the changeover, the current forum software failed to work! However, when I tried it via the test forum, it worked perfectly.

That says it all........

You may be amazed by the lack of change which is because the upgrade did not go to plan so I have rolled back to the old version. Basically the problem is that the current hosts do not allow sufficient resources for the database upgrade to run.
In order to get around this I will copy the entire database to my own hosting platform, run the upgrade and then copy it back however this will take time, something that I have run out of this morning as I have a client visit this afternoon

I will have a chat with the other admins to reschedule however it's more likely to be late this evening now.

Fear not, the upgraded forum is coming.......it's just going to be a little delayed!
