Whilst this site doesn't cost the earth to run, there are some expenses involved of course. The very last thing I want to do is to charge a subscription - that is the sort of thing that puts people off. Asking for donations is all very well, but donors should get something in return as a "thank you" for their support.

So, as a means of funding the site for the foreseeable future, I plan to offer for sale your very own "rover800.info" email addresses.

For a small-ish fee (say £5 per year) you can have "yourname@rover800.info" as an address which will forward to whatever email address you require. For example, I have mine set up to forward into my Yahoo email account. You will also notice that, in future, all communications from this forum will be from "admin@rover800.info".

Once enough addresses have been sold, I intend to purchase a long term hosting package from Go-Daddy (our web hosts) which should ensure that the site stays in business if I move abroad/lose my job/lose interest/die suddenly (delete as applicable).

What do you reckon? Is the idea a goer and is the offer price about right? Please let me have your thoughts below.

I think its a great idea Rich, I've wanted something a little different, but there are a few questions I must ask:

1. How many e-mail addresses are we entitled to?
2. For one "800.info" address, how many of our e-mails can we direct it to, as some people have 2 or 3 outside addresses (Hotmail, Yahoo etc...)
3. Can we pay by paypal?

I think its a great idea as we can never know what will happen in the future and as this is by application only it certainly will not put people off as they know they have the choice.

I personally have no qualms with the price, £5 per year sound pretty good.

I'll certainly have one please, if you can put me down for one.

Think it's 500 Email Accounts.

Can redirect them to multiple addresses and can also have it as a standalone account.

We do have up to 500 accounts available.
If I recall correctly, it can forward to as many addresses as you like (although the field for adding these has a maximum 149 characters, so there's a practical limit there).

There will also be a goodly number of webmail accounts.

So, if you'd rather not have a forwarding account that sends the messages on to your existing email facility (Yahoo, Hotmail etc.) you can access via webmail, in much the same way as Yahoo and Hotmail work.

Plesae let me know if you want an email address that will forward to an existing address, or of you'd prefer a webmail address (similar to yahoo or Hotmail) you can have that.

For webmail, I'll just need your preferred username and initial password (via PM) - you should be able to change the password later.

For forwarding email, I'll just need your choice of username and the email address to which you'd like your rover800.info mail sent.

With these donations, we can buy at least a 1 year hosting package which will give us some security even if I lose my job and run out of money!
