Foot pump recommendations

Post by SJG » Fri Apr 18, 2014 8:01 pm

Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent foot pump? I am fed up with the cheap small 12v compressors as they don't last or the cheap foot pumps that fall to bits. I have been looking at this, is it any good? Thanks for looking.

You're in a similar place to me Simon but I'm after a proper tyre inflator.

I've had two footpumps recently which haven't lasted 5 minutes so I'm after a 12 volt compressor. A decent one, not a £9.99 el cheapo.

I think Halfrauds have footpumps in the Easter sale from £7. However, from what I've read, the best "foot" pumps are in fact handpumps, American fire brigade types which are apparently used in motorsport.

I bought a really good 12v compressor from Dragon Mart in Dubai - £45 but it has no trouble inflating 4 Jeep tyres in 40C temperatures, and quickly, too.

Might be a bit far for you to go shopping, though.

Got my 12v pump from Lexus over 10 years ago. Probably used it on average 10 times a month ( and today to pump up footballs). Buy a Japanese one. Last you forever. Around 60 quid though!

I got a compressor from Aldi along with impact wrench, spray guns and an air-brush for £60 a few years back. I know, it's not 12v and you'd have trouble carrying it in the boot of the car but it's great for simple jobs around the house, garden and garage.

I've got a compressor at home. It was for the boot of the car, for emergencies on the car/caravan.

Very true. :D

Haven't had one break yet. Though I don't hammer them. Just for backup when needed. They will inflate a flat tyre to 30 psi in 4 minutes or something daft. Nice bit of kit IMO. Hence have 5 or 6 from the days of lots of cars.

I have recommended them several times to friends and family too. All without fault as far as I know.

I have found footpumps to be rubbish. Electric - the first one I had wasn't very good, indicator lights stopped working and the battery died. I replaced with with an Air Monster which is great - but isn't available any more. That doesn't really help, does it?

No, but it fits the ethos of the forum perfectly!
