Quick wheels question

Post by championdaddy » Tue Apr 07, 2015 1:47 pm

Will the wheels off a rover 25 have the same stud pattern as my 825 ?

I fancy a change of wheels.......I have seen some after market jobbies which fit the 25.

Does anyone know the stud dimension, ofset and ...........errrr.........the other bits so I can check them please .

No - but wheels from a 600 and some Hondas (eg Accord) will. Maestro vans and Daewoo Matiz, too.

Is the .3 on the 114.3 an absolute ? or will just 114 do ?

It's a metric equivalent of 4.5 inches.

I can't promise that ignoring the 0.3mm would be OK, but I do know that lots of people have ignored a similar dimension and fitted BMW wheels on Jaguars

0.3mm is probably close to the manufacturing tolerance of the wheels, and definitely won't exceed the clearance of the bolt holes. It'll be fine.

I've just been down this route myself to finding alternative wheels due to a nasty ding in one rim on my Sterling and dings in one or two wheels on my coupe.

The following have the same stud pattern (114.3 x 4) :

Volvo S/V40 (1998-2002)
Mitsubishi (most models)
Nissan (most models)
Kia (some models)
Honda - Accord and Legend 4 stud (late 80's to about 1998)

I found this site helpful for stud patterns, offset and centre bore and it has a feature to sort wheels into "Fitment" groups :

http://www.carlsalter.com/all-wheel-fitments.html

One thing you need to be careful of is the centre bore which is 64mm on the 800. If you fit wheels with a larger centre (eg 67mm) you will need a set of these :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161618760689? ... EBIDX%3AIT

They keep the wheel central on the hub, prevent it being off-centre due to the wheel nuts pulling it away from the centre and support the weight of the wheel on the hub, rather than relying on the wheel nuts which are only there to hold the wheel on. I used the above link as an example of what to look for, you will need to check your centre bore and find the right size spigot rings to suit.

I've gone for Volvo BBS Crater wheels which are similar to the "Hairpin" wheels fitted to the 75/ZT models but have 8 "hairpins" instead of the 7 on the 75/ZT.

Image

They need a bit of refurbishment but most wheels of this age will and at least i haven't paid for tyres that are the wrong size!

One last point - wheelnuts!!! The 800 uses M12 x 1.5 threads, you will need to make sure the wheel nuts you have are either suitable for the wheels you're fitting or have the same thread if you use the whee nuts from the donor car. This, coupled with the offset and size of the wheel is why i went for the Volvo wheels as i can use the same wheel nuts and the only "extra" i need are the spigot rings.

Hope that's all helpful for you!
Cheers,
Dave
