Good luck with the project.

Regarding spares, brake bits are, if I remember correctly, almost all the same as mk2 cars except I would expect your Vitesse to have the larger diameter front brake discs (282mm vs 262mm?).

Electrics are very different but most of the mechanical stuff interchanges. Even the electric window mechanisms are different (cable on the mk1, scissors ratchet on the mk2). Mk1 has different shock absorbers (dampers) from mk2 but if you use the appropriate strut top mounts then they are compatible. Some mk1s had Nivomat self levelling rear dampers - they use softer springs so spring and damper must be matched. Normal mk2 rear springs seem to be softer than the ones on mk1s, causing the rear to sag. If I had a mk2, I'd fit mk1 rear springs.

That "chrome" filler strip at the top of the front screen always goes like that one has.

Overall, the car looks to be in fair condition - a bit of time with a pressure washer will clear the debris from the outside.

I like 820s and I find them fast enough. A low spec one has a certain simple charm

Good luck Henrik! It's the Vitesse, right?
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Richard, a lot of info there! I probably need to get a book/wsm on it. I believe the brakes are 285mm yes. Hopefully discs and pads are easily found as I probably will need them. The brakes was the reason the car was garaged in the first place.

Yes Dave, its the Vitesse. And as the law is somewhat changed here recently the cat can be removed (if it is there) so on paper it would be a 177bhp version with manual box.

First stage will be a thorough clean in and out, then giving the brakes some attention, and then an MoT.

If it is the cat version, it will be 169bhp from the factory Henrik and removing the cat boosts that to 193bhp (Rovers figures, not mine) and if you can find one, a GEX33554 is the way to do it - genuine Rover decat box.

Only ever seen one on ebay, they're NLA at Rimmers now, the ebay one is now in Northern Ireland under the body of my old Coupé but i live in hope of another turning up on ebay at some point. :D
Cheers,
Dave

193? Are you sure Dave? 177 is what is written everywhere. I hope you’re right though! :)

My understanding of the C27 engine is 177bhp as high compression with no cat and 167hp or thereabouts for the low compression with cat.

That mk1 Sterling of mine (now in the caring ownership of Tracy) was no cat, high compression, manual and fast! Basically a Vitesse with extra luxury. Really best of both worlds.

Aside from the slightly lower compression with the cat being 169bhp as far as i've ever known (let's not argue over 2 bhp! ) that's pretty much the size of it Richard. However, i did find some data - somewhere - that was official Rover data and the decatted C27A1 is 193bhp with a slightly different designation.
When i find it again, i'll post it up but at the moment i can't remember where i saw it.
Cheers,
Dave
