1993 Rover 827 Si automatic
Hi again ,
My father owns his mk2 827 Si sins 2008 and right after the purchase with 167 000 kms he brought it to the garage for major maintenance (because of that no pics of mechanical maintenance). I started the page on my father's 800 because i thought you fellow enthusiasts would like to be updated on his car as well .
Current millage is 204 000 kms.
Recent pics of the car after i treated the paint with clay to remove dirt and then wax polish. After a few hours my father was very grateful .
A few weak ago i noticed some spots on the rear sill's and started to poke in the body work to find some bodge jobs from a previous garage. Maybe fine for a short while but not good enough. The filler was expanding and therefor looking bad. Cleaned it very well with power tools and wire brush. After that i cleaned it and spray painted it with zink spray to prevent it from rusting further. In a few weeks it will be welded by me and a friend who has the good equipment. After that i will post new pics .
Left and right end of the sill near the rear wheels. After the zink spray i put some black to finish it for the moment and sealed it off with tape (very dodgy i know) to prevent water to come in.
The rest of the car was checked and is rust free. I will keep you posted .

^^Looks identical to mine
Thanks for the pictures...Mine is going in the same place, but hopefully not as much metal will need to be replaced! What are the inner lips on the rear wings like?

Re: 1993 Rover 827 Si automatic
Without doubt the weak spot on 800's, mine were the same.
Nice job on the polishing. The only other black mk2's I've seen are the stretch limo's.

Haha maybe a good camera .
Good use of the soap is important in my opinion. I mean don't just touch every surface but really let the soap do its job because it will start the cleaning reaction after rubbing the soapy sponge a couple of times. You will remove more dirt and clean it better and reduce risk of scratching. After that Clay to remove residual dirt. The wax that i used was specific for dark cars and is made to remove/hide the oily/dull gloss on dark colored cars to give it the dark deep shine. Pics always make a car look better and if you look up close you will see some marks (no rust) but that is normal for and old car.
The last time is cleaned my Vitesse (washing, drying, clay clean, washing, drying wax on, wax of) took over 6 hours. So time is also an important factor when cleaning a car . I do panel for panel and keep going/re polish until satisfied.

Re: 1993 Rover 827 Si automatic
A few day's ago we noticed that the black beauty's alarm went of sometimes with no reason. Sometime ago i noticed that the car did not want to lock because there was still something not closed properly. The bonnet needed to be pressed again and then it would lock. But, as said the alarm would go of after a while. I went to the Facebook 800 page for advice and mr Simon Hubbard told me that the bonnet sensor is often the cause. I checked if it was still working and indeed it was, not locking when dismantled and when compressed it was. When i had a closer look to the sensor i noticed that the braked holding the rubber knob / sensor was bend down a bit. So the bonnet did not fully compressed the sensor / knob. After bending it back upwards it seems to have done the trick. The bonnet compresses the sensor telling the alarm all is well. Easy fix .

Re: 1993 Rover 827 Si automatic
It is easy Marc, just follow the wires from the sensor and around 1/2 way along the headlamp under the slam panel you will find a little plug, just pull them apart.Marc-827-Vitesse wrote:Thanks for your reaction and indeed it is about my father's 827
