I have to tow a trailer sometimes, and not wanting to spoil the look of the coupe searched for a genuine towbar kit, I was fortunate enough to find one last year and a few weeks ago came across a brand new set of Rover electrics (so no cutting into the wiring). The 13pin trailer plug has a Rover badge on it and to protect it I bought a rubber cover and put a Rover badge on that too - which is what you are seeing. The tow hook is removeable and not on the car in the photo.

Thanks Dave, I went to the NEC in it this weekend and it all seems fine now. That V reg saloon looks too nice to break.

It does but it was up for sale on here for ages and then ebay at least once.

Glad you got the wheel sorted out and the tracking etc and no other damage!

For reference the OE part number is CDU2331EVA and the listing has a few more OE numbers as it turns out to be the same seal kit used in some Marinas, Saabs and Allegros. They also list a new cylinder for about £35 + P&P but they list it for many other 800s including petrol and the 820/620 turbo. The turbo versions may be another possibility but as i expect you've found, the diesel uses a unique slave cylinder.

I started out by looking for Jeep Cherokee 2.5TD and Alfa 156 TD slave cylinders as both of them use the same VM engine. However not much seemed to correlate.

Not sure if any of that is any help or whether you've already been down that route of looking for alternative vehicles.
Hi Dave - thanks, although these are slave cylinders and seal kits for a standard petrol 800 - the slave cylinder is completely different on the diesel:

and the seal (17mm) is the wrong size for my car which is 19mm.

I think after Darrens recent experience with clutch slave cylinders he's now the "go to" expert on them so i'll let him answer that one! :wink: :D

Thanks Dave - not by choice I assure you!

the 514244 lockhead kit fits a number of vehicles and cross references to lots of other manufacturers, but I couldn't seem to find the diameter (although it might be 22.2mm) - the 825 dieselseal needs to be 19mm. There must be another slave cylinder with the same bore...thats what we are looking for. - I will keep on the look out too.

My seals came out of a Land Rover wheel cylinder I think.

Go on - you know you want to! Have you got a dead slave cylinder or two that you could give it a try on? If it works then you can keep it in the boot as a spare in case the new one lets you down instead of having to wait a few days for recovery of you, the car and your passengers again.

Original seal is 19 x 12 x 5 mm,

will try this 19,2 x 11,2 x 5 mm ... maybe it fit
