And while I think about it, any ideas about water ingress into the boot..? Drain holes are clear, no sign of leaking around the lights, but a lot of water at the weekend soaking the fabric panels...

Hauxton, Fowlmere, Melbourne - errr................ oh yeah, Meldreth! Don't worry, i have trouble remembering the name of the place as do a couple of others i know!

I'm planning on being at the next one as well (4th March, i normally try and get there early and have some lunch there) and hoping to bring my Coupé so i'll show you the ideas i have about water ingress into the boot. My boot is quite damp at the moment but not because water has got into the boot, i'm 99% sure it's actually condensation from the cabin.
However there are a few things where water can get in and i'm hoping to eliminate the other 1% of my uncertainty later this week. If it isn't ok (as i think it is at the moment) there's a good chance it is one of, if not the main cause of water in your boot.

Sorry if that sounds cryptic, the brain cell won't quite form the words to explain all the different ideas at the moment! Also i'll be able to explain better with the car in front of me! :D

Good luck with the assessor and fingers crossed for a good outcome!
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks,Dave,
I'll be interested to have your input on this...I have had some parts delivered today, but no idea when the garage can get around to fixing it, so will most likely be in the Metro...:-)
See you there, hopefully,
Dick

No problem Dick, i tripped over a front hub assembly today, pretty sure it's nearside - quite a lot of surface rust but otherwise good.

A Metro eh? I remember someone turning up there in a Metro a few months back, just bought it, red one as i recall. Wasn't you by any chance?

Just waiting for something to land, hopefully tomorrow that will hopefully improve the humidity in the boot. Not going to say what it is just yet as it's not even designed for a Rover but is about as close as we're likely to get at the moment.
I might be right, i might be barking up the wrong tree or i might just be one stop short of Dagenham - plain barking! Actually that's kind of a Freudian slip - all will become clear as mud when i explain what the item is and if it works. :D
Cheers,
Dave

Hi,Dave,
yes, that was me in the Metro..:-)
Although have just bought another Rover classic, so hoppefully will be in that- look out for something white ! ish...
Any parts will be welcome, tell me how much, and I'll cough up when I see you..
I definitel have a water leak, mainly to NS of boot, also spare wheel well, and a little to the OS of boot...wondering if water is entering bootlid somehow and dropping from that ?
Will remove bootlid lights and have a look..
Also, next task is to strip interior to check that the drain pipes are secure and clear..
Happy hunting..
regards,
Dick

White ish? Is that Two-Tone White aka White with a hint of Cinnamon or in less "informed" circles as white with rust? :?

Boot "leaks" - lock striker plate adjustment, buffer adjustment (those rubber things, one each side), hinge adjustment, weak boot springs/gas struts (as the bootlid approaches the closed position the spring/strut goes past its shortest length so when completely closed the spring pulls the lid down and the strut pushes it down at the front end) and the boot seal.

Also if water is entering the cabin via blocked sunroof drains, the vents to the boot (back end of the parcel shelf) allow for circulation of moist air which condenses on the inside of the bootlid that you can't see because of the trim/insulation panel - it's meant to drain out of the two drainholes in the boot lid but doesn't always happen!

Last but not least is the boot seal. Tom (traineefarmer) put me onto a boot seal originally designed for the Humber Sceptre i think it was, i had a look at the sellers other listings on fleabay and found this looked much more like the original :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331811847500? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Apart from the "skirt" on the Rover boot seal, they appear identical to me, give or take a millimetre. I ordered 5m which finally landed today (should have been here thursday) so should have about 18" left over if i'm lucky. Ball park tape measure figures show the boot seal to be about 4.5m long, you wouldn't think it to look at it!

I'll have a good luck at what hubs i have, definitely got at least one N/S front hub, think i've got a rear one as well. :D
Cheers,
Dave

More white with a taste of nutmeg...:-) You'll see...
Thanks for the info, as a last resort I'll have to get in there with a torch and get someone to spray it with the hose...

Intriguing! Sounds like a Montego!

You're welcome on the information, sorry it took a while for my brain cell to get the words out! I'll let you know how i go with fitting that Cortina boot seal as well, it finally landed yesterday! Not even had a chance to look at it yet but hoping for great things. I know Tom had problems with water ingress into his boot and fitted the Humber boot seal, that sorted him out. That's near identical as well but has a "fin" round the edge to help with water rejection. :D

Dave

As promised Dick, an update about that boot seal. The new one fits very well, seals nicely although the lip it sits on had corroded through in places. I think i've got it water tight at the moment though and come the better weather i'll look in to how best to repair the damaged lip sections.

Well worth the £21 for the seal and i'll be doing the Sterling sometime soon as well. :D

Dave

Hi,Dave,
thanks for that.
Which seal did you use in the end?
I am interested to see if it stops the leak on your car...
Best wishes,
Dick

This one Dick :

I'll be surprised if it doesn't stop at least some of it, the lip it mounts on was corroded in places though so might have to do a bit of body repairing to make it completely water-tight!  :D

Thanks,Dave.
I have also spotted a tailgate seal on Rimmers site for just under £14,plus VAT, so have ordered one of those, it can't hurt to have too many...
