True, awkward not being were you'd want it though.
How do you mean Chris?

Thanks to many people's generous help, 6 dial to 4 dial counter swap is done well. When putting it back, I noticed that some of the light bulbs on heater/ventilation panel, next to the 4 dials counter are dead. The bulbs are tightly sitting in those plastic multi connector and I don't know how to remove them? I assume they are just pushed in. I tried to pull with thin nose pliers but it slips and can't get them out  Is there anyway I can remove them without breaking them? Or am I missing something? :?

They are wire-ended bulbs, commonly called "Grain of wheat" bulbs by model makers. I removed all of mine in my Sterling and changed them for LEDs. Brighter, more colourful and a lot more reliable than bulbs!

Have a look at this thread to see how i did it :

http://www.rover800.info/forum/viewtopi ... =10&t=8654

That will show you how to change the bulbs for LEDs but it is just as easy to use the same method to change the bulbs for new bulbs.

Here's some Grain of Wheat bulbs (12V) or you could go for the LEDs like i changed mine to. I bought mine from Spiratronics.com - they have good prices and a simple, flat postage rate.

I still have to upgrade my coupe to LEDs but it keeps throwing me other problems in between and if my project ever happens, there will be lots of LEDs in that and i mean LOTS!!!!
Cheers,
Dave

Excuse me to leave this thread for long time.

It is sad to inform you that I have decided to move onto next art project and I am in the process to sort out my garage.
Have been asking around to find a new home for my two headed 827 but unfortunately before I find one, I run out of time and I need to vacate the garage.

As I have been helped and encouraged so much by members here, to show my appreciation, I would like to offer it to any member of this forum for free.
If you are interested to take it for parts or to continue the project, it is grateful.
I will put this notice up in the For Sale section thread shortly.

Again, thank you very much for all your help sorting the technical problem as well as you guys generous support.

It's a good job I'm not into 800s anymore, I'd have snapped your hand off in the past.

That's a very generous offer after all the time and money you must have put into the project.

I hope someone takes you up on it and carries on with it.

Plus if anyone does, I reckon my trailer should be towed behind it somehow. :D That would be some sight.

Go on Chris - you know you want it! 8)

Your trailer "behind" it would definitely be a sight to see! Thing that puzzles me though, how can it go behind a car with two front ends? :?

Dave

I won't lie it crossed my mind for more than a second.

Aside choosing which end would become the rear, I can't see it being strong enough to mount a towbar?

Maybe just a stationary picture with it offered up behind whichever end is chosen to be the rear?

It's a shame the two engines can't be made to run together and make it four wheel drive. :D

I just replied in the other thread Chris but the driveshafts are the same length on the 2.7 so arguably the engine and box could simply be turned round to get the correct direction. Headache would be the gear linkage.

As for the towbar, i'm sure you could fabricate something to bolt on to the crash bar/bumper rails or similar. He's reinforced it quite a bit in the middle so should be strong enough to tow and if the engine was turned round, 350bhp ish should be enough to drag most things. :D

Dave
