Re: Heater Blower fan resistor
Mogtypus was selling one on ebay recently and did not sell so presumably will still have it awaiting relist at some point. Maybe worth a cold call email via ebay.

Re: Heater Blower fan resistor
Is it for a Mk1 or Mk2, air-con or non air-con?
I might have a working one in my shed attached to a rather dead fan unit.

Re: Heater Blower fan resistor
Have you checked the bi-metal overload switch?
Tom.

Re: Heater Blower fan resistor
The fan motor itself might be dead, have you tried feeding the motor directly?

Re: Heater Blower fan resistor
Tom, glad to hear that my posts on the 820 heater fan were useful to you. From memory, the two wire wound resistances were good so I bypassed the beryllium metal bit on the fan plate with a 121c temperature resistant fuse. That is to say, if the temperature rises above 121c, the fuse will blow. I now think that 121c is a bit too high so a 100c fuse should work just as well and not blow.
It was very useful to have all the fan speeds working last winter.

Re: Heater Blower fan resistor
I had one fail from corrosion on my first 800 16 years ago. My solution was a bit less refined than yours though. A short length of copper wire got soldered over the top!zcar12 wrote:Tom, glad to hear that my posts on the 820 heater fan were useful to you. Re: Heater Blower fan resistor
Bi metal fuse, replaced, fan will run on high speed when resistor linked out, and when removed from car.

Re: Heater Blower fan resistor
That points to the switch then for the intermediate speeds.

Re: Heater Blower fan resistor
Hi all
Thanks for all for your advice in sorting this problem out, it was an earth fault, ( by wiper motor) collected a few spares so will be ready to fix quickly next time.
Looking forward to laying on my back with my fingers in places they shouldn't go
Pat.
