newbie return to rover after 25years
hi all,
last year my son in law brought home a 1997 rover 825 manual coupe, covered in green moss, been stored for a number of years with 2 sets of keys, manuals and service history and asked me if I wanted it. knowing I had rovers for years 2 p6 3500s
and 1 3500 auto. I cleaned and polished it every thing worked heated seats, sunroof, cruise control, windows, mirrors, cd disc player.
put it in for M O T flew through, been wax oiled from new, now its my pride and joy

There's a lot of knowledge on here about the 800 so any questions, feel free to ask. Don't think your question is silly and don't ask - the only time a question is silly is if it isn't asked!
OK, OK, we'll ignore the genuinely silly questions for these purposes!
There are a lot of subtle mods, repairs/upgrades that can be done to keep your 800 in perfect working order, even if they might seem a bit unorthodox at first. They're all tried, tested and proven by us though.
You've got a great looking car there and a very rare one as well - Coupé with the KV6 and the manual (TorSen) box, great fun on bendy bits!

Great, another saved and back on the road. Don't believe everything you read about the KV6, it is a decent engine, just pushed into service too quickly by BMW. We (brother and I) have run KV6 for years and have both fixed and pre-empted the dreaded 'HGF'. There are now shim kits available to reposition the wet liners to the correct height for use with the multi layer type gaskets. Once done properly, a very solid engine and in manual form is surprisingly quick, I believe.

Do you mean 25 KV6 manual Coupés Phil or 25 KV6 manuals across all body styles? I know there weren't many of either KV6 or the Honda V6 in manual form (i think 44 827 Sterling manuals, not sure on the SLi/Si etc and don't think that includes Coupés) but only 25 KV6 manuals full stop?

We now have accurate figures for all UK spec Mk2's inc Coupe. So there were 50 KV6 Manual Coupes, in contrast there were 660 KV6 Auto Coupes made for this country. That's out of a total UK registered MK2 800's of over 75,000 all models, which means some 48,000 Mk2 800's were exported in a total Mk2 build of 123,593. All these figures will be added to the Rover 800 Owners Club new website due for launch later this month.
