Rover 825 v6 Sterling 1998 R543 HJW
Bought a month ago. 63K. MOT apr'18. NO Fob. entry via repeated number of turn to left and right. if you've had to do it, you know what I mean. called in an 'mobile alarm' guy, unable to disarm immobiliser.( try 'Camco' Warrington. went to 'Camco'-(Attempt to program key fob to car, but need the barcodes for the fob, which are unobtainable. bypassed started relay kill from body control module. Removed ECU, removed immobiliser- devices, reprogram with blank file, cut immobiliser input circuit internally in ecu. rebuild, refitted to car. Any one still have access to codes to programme a fob-if I can still get one to make entry easier. Car is nightfire red with black matt alloys & new bridgestone tyres all round.engine seems fine, not fully tested yet though. any advice from any one in local Warrington, Cheshire area gratefully accepted.Cheers, Colin.

Re: Rover 825 v6 Sterling 1998 R543 HJW
I'm pretty certain that with the Valeo fobs you can only programme them with the barcode. You may be able to source an ECU-CCU-Fob set which will give you a working central locking and immobilser.
Occasionally a fob comes up on ebay with its barcode, but beware - I have been told that there is a limit to how many times it can be used.

Re: Rover 825 v6 Sterling 1998 R543 HJW
Other than that you would have to obtain a full set of FOB, ECU and CCU from another post 96 rover 800.
They would all need to be from the same car though else it won't work

Re: Rover 825 v6 Sterling 1998 R543 HJW
Just to add to what Tom and Dean have said, if you went down the fob/ECU/CCU route, it would have to be from another 825 and preferably seen working - you would also (i believe) need the receiver box from under the armrest/centre console as i think that is programmed to the key for additional immobilisation.
Could be worth contacting Ron at Best of British Rover in the west Midlands to see if he has any 825 KV6 key/fob/ECU/CCU/receiver sets - also scour ebay for someone breaking an 825 KV6.
I know Jez (XPuffin) has revived a number of 825s and i think he has one or two spares cars, he may be able to help you out. That said i've not seen him on here for a while, either all is well or he's up to his neck in dead KV6s - again!

I'm not sure on the receiver. I've heard mixed reports. I was under the impression that the coding is solely in the CCU which in turn is coded to the ECU.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2017 9:29 pmJust to add to what Tom and Dean have said, if you went down the fob/ECU/CCU route, it would have to be from another 825 and preferably seen working - you would also (i believe) need the receiver box from under the armrest/centre console as i think that is programmed to the key for additional immobilisation.
There must be someone on here who has done a swap an a late car to confirm.

Others i've spoken to have said they had to use it so again, mixed reports. That's why i said (i believe) the box under console needs swapping.
Hedge your bets, make sure it comes with the other bits. Wouldn't put it past BMW to have insisted some needed it, others didn't depending on the time of day the box was fitted to the car in the first place!

Is this an option for you?

It's what I plan to do for my Sterling because the fob has packed up.

Re: Rover 825 v6 Sterling 1998 R543 HJW
On the one hand at least owners of Mk2b's can get replacement fobs, albeit at a price.
On the other hand, owners of Mk2a's can fit an aftermarket remote alarm/immobiliser with central locking interface and have the same end result for much less and make the indicators flash on arm/disarm!

Re: Rover 825 v6 Sterling 1998 R543 HJW
Very rarely - the switches wear out eventually which causes a problem. Other than that i can't say i've heard of a Mk2a fob failing, just being lost - probably by some owner too lazy to change the battery and because it no longer worked, put it in the drawer and left it there when it was sold to the next owner who did in fact want a fob.
I blame BMW for the problems on post-96 cars and the lack of quality. I'm sure they pulled loads of bits off the 75 to make it more basic (lack of "Lazy Locking" for example) and having stripped an 800 Mk2a seat and a MK2b seat, the framework was definitely more substantial in the Mk2a and better built as well. The leather was also thicker in the Mk2a with better quality fixings and cushion foams.
