You're going to have to stop doing this, you're putting the rest of us to shame.
Seriously though, very nice.

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Finally sorted the sunroof. In the past my friend and me did some rust removal and repair but the front side of the sun roof was a bridge to far so to speak. My friend was worried about the tention in the roof and possible damage. So we cleaned it as much as possible and covered it with paint. The rust on the sides we did do thouroghly. Only the front needed some tlc. I approached a colleague for some advise and he offered to help me. Very kind and i was happy because the job intimidated me a bit. At home, i removed the headlining and all the little things.
After the removal of the spray can paint this showed:
Yes, and now? My colleague was glad that it was not that bad yet but he had to think what was the best route to approach. After thinking about it for a day he came up with a thourogh plan:
Nice to show you my epic ''paint'' skills
1:) The black line is the sunroof, the dark grey lines are the roof itself (outer body and inner body) and the brown shows the rust.
2:) Remove the sunroof, cut away the edge were the rust was behind. So we could clean it and remove all the rust.
3:) Then a new piece of sheet metal made to fit and glue it in place. And of course, reinstall the sunroof.
It sounded like a plan so we went for it.
Here, my colleague cuts away the edge that holds the rust:
Quite a moment when someone takes an angle grinder and starts cutting in your pride and joy:
Rust was on the move:
Removed all the rust to bare metal so the body glue could stick and the rust would not come back:
This is the view from inside the Rover. Also cleaned and removed the rust. Also drilled holes so we could realy get the glue everywere:
Making the new steel part fit:
Here my collegue glued in the new section of steel with body glue:
After one day of drying all sanded down and filler to make it look nice:
Then a layer of sanding primer to ensure all is well prepared for paint:
Because i had to remove the sunroof i took my chance to remove the dirt and replace the grease. Also blew through the water hoses to prevent blockage:
Asked another colleague who is a painter if he would mind to paint the roof. No problem he said so we started to mask and then he applied the paint:
The colour ''Gunmetal Grey'':
Then the 2K clear:
The next morning i unwrapped the old girl and i was so happy with the result!:
On the inside were we removed the rust i applied some primer so the steel could not rust again:
Also on the left side there was some surface rust on the inner edge that i removed as much as i could:
And here the side was primed as well:
Then i used cavity wax to protect all the seems and cavitys in the roof and A-C pillars:
Then, the sunroof could go back in. Since i got the car the roof always looked to be at an angle but now i removed all the old washers that were not correct and installed fresh new ones and alligned the roof mechanism properly:
Everything back in place. After i tightend the nuts and screws i applied some yellow paint to make sure i did not mis anything. Looks nice as well i think:
Nice feeling when you know all is well and fresh again. Headlining back in place:
Roof looks nice again:
When i removed the C-pilar cover i noticed that my rear speakers could do with replacing so that is what i did:
So happy with the result and gratefull for all the help i got from my colleagues with the bodywork and paintwork. Also thankfull to my girlfriend who helped with the removal and fitting of my headlining!

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
I am a little jealous of you friends. When I go to my local bodyshops to get some work done, they ask if the area is rusty and when I say 'yes, that's why I want the work done', they then tell me they're not interested. They only want 'clean' bent metal insurance work. Useless!
Very brave to take it on at all. Another lovely job, well done. And in a proper booth as well .
My Vitesse has rust in a similar place, touched it up a couple of years back but needs doing properly. Can I bring mine across please?

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Awesome work Marc! I know where to bring mine now!
What is the brand name of the body glue please? I doubt we can get it here but can probably get similar so a name would be good to start with. got a bit of rust on my sunroof aperture to deal with and also on both sides where the rear quarter panels join the rear screen surround/D pillars.
Body glue would be much better on both of those than trying to weld it.........

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Thanks Mark! I am very happy with the friends I have. Very helpful. Ah that is strange I must say. They should help you. Tried another body shop?
Ha, im sure your welcome over here.
Cheers Dave! I will have a look in regards to the brand. Welding is not smart indeed.
