If the dash light flashes, what does that mean?

It means that the ECU has detected a fault, doesn't it? Do you have any codes on the ECU?

Normally the light would come on and stay on when a fault is detected.

I've just dug my fault finding manual out and it doesn't specifically mention anything about the light actually flashing.

You need to check your ECU as Rich suggests.

Got no engine ECU fault codes, switched off and re-started and the engine popped and banged before firing up. The light stopped flashing. Checked the gearbox codes and got a 14 code. Pulled the fuse to clear it. Recently been having cold starting problems again. Also the car is very rough when cold like a misfire. All plugs and leads test good with correct resistance. Petrol or LPG it does the same.

• Short or open in W/S wire between EFi control unit and E.A.T. control unit
• EFi control unit faulty

This is what it says for code 14 on the gearbox ECU.

Perhaps releaseing and reseating the connectors on the FI ECU and transmission ECU may help - especially if it's the first of those two faults.

Maybe I'll check the fuseboard connections as I took that out last week, not touched the ECU or EAT connections at all.

Could have been an old fault code I guess, so could be misleading?

I'll see how it goes. Can't find any info on PGM-FI dash light blinking, never seen that before. Perhaps its a noise warning for my new backbox. Laughing

That doesn't mean that there is no corrosion in there - unless the connectors are made of gold they will oxidise over time. I'll bet the EAT one under the seat hasn't been removed since the car was built,

Me neither. Like I said no mention in the proper fault finding manual.

Joking aside has it only happened since fitting the exhaust?

Yes it has only happened since fitting the exhaust, it backfires when starting now, I'm sure it must just be coincidence though

My old man doesn't believe in coincidences.

If it's only happened since that, then try taking it off and see what happens.
