My windscreen currently leaks at the top in heavy rain and as I'm about to have work done to the roof to repair rust round the sunroof opening I figured this may as well be sorted at the same time.

2 questions... I assume that a new bronze tinted windscreen should still be readily available through the usual screen fitters? I would hate to have the old one taken out/ruined at the body shop if a new replacement cannot be sourced.

Secondly, I have a very manky early style top trim on the windscreen. Will a stainless MK2 one fit straight on? If so, anyone got one? Thanks. Smile

Haven't had a bronze one swapped before. But later blue/green ones are easily found.

Definitely one to double check.

The mk2 top trim is very different - it attaches to metal lugs on the roof and these aren't present on the mk1. You may be able to get one glued in.

Just checked with Auto Windscreens and the bronze tint is still available at £174.57inc. Just got to organise the logistics of having the screen taken out for the bodywork and then refitting the new one.

Any reason why you can't re-use your current screen?

Its quite likely the old one could be cracked when removed plus it has a handful of old stone chips so considering how much I'm likely to have to spend on the roof paintwork, I may as well fit a new one.

That's fair enough. If it comes out in one piece, you may find someone on here would be interested (especially if it's bronze tinted and therefore a bit rare).

Of course it would be offered free to anyone who could use it, either way if it comes out complete, I'll store it for a rainy day.

You should check AutoWindscreens part carefully - they like to use their own brand which have "UK windscreens" in big fake handwriting on one of the bottom corners.

Also they say with all the confidence in the world that they have the right screen in the right year and colour etc, in my case I needed a Mk1 blue tint with green/blue shadeband, they turned up with a Mk2 screen with the obscuration panel cutout for the dash mounted VIN card. And it had their wanky logo on it. It did NOT get fitted!!!

Took me ages to get them to get a proper one from Pilkington in the past...
