I had one of those equalisers a few years ago.

Bought it for novelty more than anything.

Looks like we need a new sub forum?

I suppose being interested in gadgets and working in a Tandy store I got to play with some nice toys. I bought a lot of Realistic stuff when it went discontinued using their layaway system. Once an item had been dis for 3 months it devalued by 25%. I just kept paying a quid here and there until I'd kept it long enough. to be worth nil on the stock deck. Being the manager had it's benefits as I'd transfer in a brand new (or barely demo'd) unit and kept it in the back of the shop.
The speakers were £149.95 each but I think I paid about £40 for the pair. As long as the shop made stock gains the area manager wasn't too fussed to the point where he'd often ask if I'd "bought" the items yet ?
I do have a massive receiver which needs some attention to one of the output circuits and I have a brand new front panel ready to fit when it's done (that was the last one in the country when I ordered it and it's still got the protective cover on the perspex window). :D

Nice work if you can get it!

Nice to see someone using their position to preserve some older, rarer kit as well as getting a bit out of it themselves too.
Cheers,
Dave

The good bit was it wasn't old or rare when I got it, I just couldn't afford the proper prices. List prices if I remember were £229.95 per cassette deck although the price was held at £199.95 for a long time, turntable was £179.95 and the speakers I've already said.
The receiver, an STA 2290 I bought from a customer who brought it in for repair as she (yes, a girl had it) had been given it by a friend. She said there was no sound from the speakers. I offered her £30 for it as I said the standard repair charge was £50 plus parts and labour if the fault was fixable so she accepted. Little did she know I had noticed that the pre-amp to amp links were missing so took a chance on that being the problem. One pair of phono leads later and I had 90w RMS per channel of very heavy receiver in my house.

Reminds me of the time i bought an Audi 100 CD 5E with 6 months T&T for £60 - it also came with a leaky heater matrix and the guy i got it from had been quoted telephone numbers by the local Audi dealer to fix it! One £2.99 bottle of Radweld later and i had 4 months trouble free motoring from it until it was written off by some lunatic 19 year old girl driving "daddy's" Escrot TD! A week later saw me the proud owner of a 5 year newer Cavalier, thanks to a seriously quick insurance payout! Alls well that ends well, eh?
Cheers,
Dave

I don't know why, but this does appeal to me! Trouble is, I don't have anywhere to put it. I just LOVE retro stuff!
Kind Regards

John
